#Alberta, #Albertans, it's time to VOTE in the advanced polls. They start tomorrow and it's more important to vote in this collection of atrocious referendum questions than it has been to vote in Alberta's history. Advanced voting is 9:00am to 8:00pm tomorrow, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday.
Choose option 1 for Alberta to remain a province of Canada.

Yes, it is possible that the throat condition affecting Robert F. Kennedy Jr., known as spasmodic dysphonia, was triggered by a virus or bacterial infection, though the exact cause is not fully understood.

According to medical experts, spasmodic dysphonia is a neurological disorder, not an infection itself, but it can be triggered by specific events

#Carney had to educate ignorant #Trump on reality of the bridge. Truths: 1. #Canada paid for the bridge. 2. It used US steel and workers as well as Canadian steel and workers. 3. It’s shared ownership with Michigan. Remind me again who takes advantage in this relationship?
“Carney said in French the "situation" will be "settled" after he explained to Trump "firstly" that Canada paid for what the prime minister said was the $4-billion construction cost of the Gordie Howe International Bridge that crosses to Detroit. (The bridge's latest estimated cost is $6.4 billion). And Carney said "secondly," he explained to Trump that it is a shared asset between Michigan and Canada.

"The ownership is shared between the state of Michigan, and the government of Canada, and that U.S. workers and steel went into the bridge as well as Canadian steel and labour."”

The advances in human health have been miraculous, so of course the religious have to push back on it. Humans aren’t allowed to collectively accomplish miraculous things in their opinion.
“Before 1946, conquering disease would have seemed as much a subject of science fiction as putting a man on the moon. But since 1950, global life expectancy has risen by four years each decade. Smallpox has been eradicated, and polio and malaria cases have dramatically fallen. Within the past 80 years, there have perhaps been more significant advances in human health than there were in the previous 300,000”

Ah yes. Let’s return things to how it was back when the USA was “healthy”… I mean, if people died at 66 on average, it would reduce healthcare costs for the government. Probably this is the actual plan.
“In 1946, the year the U.S. Public Health Service founded its Communicable Disease Center, American life expectancy at birth was about 66 years. Malaria was rampant in the South, and fever diseases, tuberculosis, syphilis, and polio killed tens of thousands of Americans annually. Thirty-four out of every 1,000 children born in 1946 were expected to die before their first birthday, many from communicable diseases. America”

When the tariff was only 20%, I expect a lot of Chinese EVs might have been purchased there. Let's check. Whatever will the US do? There are already a lot of Chinese EVs in Mexico! How scary for them. They'd better tariff Canada to fix this dastardly problem.
As of the end of 2025, sales of Chinese-branded vehicles in Mexico surged to approximately 244,000 units, with a significant portion of those being electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrids. Looking specifically at EVs, imports of Chinese electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles to Mexico rose from fewer than 500 in 2021 to nearly 100,000 in 2025.
Bloomberg.com
Bloomberg.com
 +4
Key details regarding Chinese EV adoption in Mexico:
Market Leadership: BYD is leading the surge, accounting for over 80% of Chinese EV imports and roughly 70% of the total EV/PHEV market in Mexico.
Sales Growth: Roughly 85,000 BYD vehicles were sold in Mexico in 2025, representing about one-third of all Chinese-branded vehicles sold in the country.
Total Market Share: "Made in China" vehicles (including those branded by Chinese companies and those made by foreign companies like GM/Ford) made up about 19% of all light vehicles sold in Mexico in 2025.
Market Factors: The rapid growth is driven by competitive pricing and high-tech, affordable models.
Tariff Response: In response to the high volume, the Mexican government raised tariffs on Chinese-made vehicles to 50% effective January 1, 2026.
Bloomberg.com
Despite these new tariffs, the rapid adoption of Chinese-made vehicles, particularly EVs, has made Mexico a key market for manufacturers like BYD, Chery, and Great Wall Motor.

Schmingy 🇨🇦 @sirschming.bsky.social · 05/02/2026
And of course, what about the country just south of Mexico with that large land border with Mexico? Guatemala.... Do they tariff Chinese EVs? As you'd expect, no....
Based on available information, Guatemala does not have specific, punitive, or high-rate import tariffs targeting Chinese electric vehicles (EVs) in the way that the US, Canada, or the EU have recently implemented.
Guatemala applies the Central American Common Market (CACM) tariff schedule, which generally applies to imports. While there are some import duties on vehicles, they are not currently characterized by special, targeted protectionist tariffs against Chinese EVs.
Key points:
Growing Chinese Presence: Chinese EV manufacturers, such as XPeng and BYD, have been actively entering the Guatemalan market, starting in 2024 and 2025.
General Tariff Structure: Guatemala's common external tariff for most industrial goods ranges from 0 to 15 percent, although exceptions exist for certain products.
No Punitive Tariffs: Unlike North American neighbors (Canada/Mexico/USA), which have implemented high tariffs (e.g., 100%) to restrict Chinese EVs, Guatemala has not enacted similar measures, allowing for competitive entry of Chinese brands.
Diplomatic Context: Guatemala maintains diplomatic relations with Taiwan, but this has not translated into special tariff restrictions on goods from mainland China.
Automotive News

In summary, Chinese EVs currently face standard import regulations rather than special high-rate, anti-subsidy duties in Guatemala.

Schmingy 🇨🇦 @sirschming.bsky.social · 05/02/2026
So, Chinese EVs and #Canada and "Hey, what has that big border south of you been doing, USA? They have 100% tariffs on Chinese EVs?" As you'd expect, no... but they did do Trump a solid and increased them to 50%. They talk tough, but they give in to Trump. There are good reasons they do so though.
Yes, as of January 1, 2026, Mexico has implemented steep tariffs of up to 50% on imported Chinese electric vehicles (EVs) and other automobiles to protect its domestic industry. These duties, which also affect various auto parts, apply to countries without a free trade agreement with Mexico.
Mexico News Daily
Mexico News Daily
 +3
Key details:
Tariff Increase: Mexico increased tariffs on imported Chinese cars from 20% up to 50%, a move partly influenced by U.S. pressure and designed to curb a growing trade deficit.
Impact: The 50% tariff applies to a range of vehicles and products from China, which previously had a 20% tariff.
Context: While these tariffs make imports costlier, Chinese brands are still expanding in Mexico and are exploring local manufacturing to bypass these duties.
Scope: The new measures affect 1,463 product categories, including autos, textiles, and electronics.

Realize that we also don't know a whole lot of the science of all sorts of supplements as there isn't any real money going into studies very often. But the studies we have done show some potential harms in terms of cancer and all cause mortality. Importantly, they rarely show any benefit.
BCAAs (leucine, isoleucine, valine)

Mechanistically, BCAAs—especially leucine—can activate mTORC1, a pathway many cancers exploit for growth. Reviews note associations between altered BCAA metabolism/intake and cancer progression in some malignancies, but human supplementation outcome data are not definitive.
Bottom line: avoid high-dose BCAA supplementation during active treatment unless your oncology team is intentionally using it for nutrition/cachexia.

All vitamins & minerals: what’s “especially caution” vs “usually okay”
Vitamins/minerals with stronger caution signals (don’t self-prescribe high-dose)

Beta-carotene (especially if you smoke or have smoked)

Vitamin E (high dose)

Folic acid + B12 (supplement-level dosing)

Vitamin B6 / B12 (high-dose individual supplements, long-term)

High-dose antioxidant stacks during chemo/radiation (A, C, E, CoQ10, carotenoids, etc.)

Vitamins/minerals that are often fine at normal dietary levels, but still matter

These usually become “problematic” when:

doses are far above the RDA,

they worsen side effects (e.g., GI upset),

or they interact with a specific drug/condition.

Examples:

Iron (only if deficient; excess can be harmful; and some observational treatment-era data raise caution about unsupervised use)

Calcium/Vitamin D (often appropriate if indicated for bone health—especially in breast cancer care—but dose and timing should be clinician-guided)

Zinc, magnesium, selenium (avoid megadoses; selenium supplementation did not prevent cancer in SELECT and is not benign at high levels)

Nice. An article on the possible harms of supplements when it comes to cancer. Not thorough enough, but basically my oncologist made sure I didn’t take any. I don’t have a freebie of this article. Just know that there are supplements that raise your risk for cancer and none have shown benefit.
“I’m an oncologist. Here’s what the science says about cancer and supplements.
Most dietary supplements are not harmful. Some, however, should be taken with caution, especially in certain populations of people”

Dear Jonas:
Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace, although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper for the United States of America. Denmark cannot protect that land from Russia or China, and why do they have a “right of ownership” anyway? There are no written documents, it’s only that a boat landed there hundreds of years ago, but we had boats landing there, also. I have done more for NATO than any other person since its founding, and now, NATO should do something for the United States. This is quite costly for something we have a vaccine for. Probably this also leads to increased dementia cases because the flu vaccine lowers the risk of getting dementia. The flu is actually hard on people’s bodies. Yes, most survive, but why go through it if you don’t have to?
Doctor visits for flulike illnesses in the U.S. have reached their highest level in nearly 30 years, according to the country’s top public health body.
More than 8 percent of all visits to a health care provider in the week ending on December 27 were for respiratory illness—the highest rate since the CDC started keeping tabs on such visits in 1997. Check out the hypocrisy in this statement. “We’re not the world police, if you’re not bothering us, we’ll not bother you. Unless it’s the EU in which case we’ll try to break you.”
It is believed to say: “After the end of the Cold War, American foreign policy elites convinced themselves that permanent American domination of the entire world was in the best interests of our country. Yet the affairs of other countries are our concern only if their activities directly threaten our interests.”
This is the logic behind the focus on policing America’s “hemisphere”, giving it the right to pressure Venezuela as it has done in recent months by destroying alleged drug-running boats and building up a huge military presence in the region

AI summary. But yes.
Yes, viruses are a significant environmental trigger for autoimmune diseases, where the immune system mistakenly attacks the body's own tissues, with mechanisms like molecular mimicry (viruses resembling self-proteins) and bystander activation leading to chronic inflammation and autoimmunity, as seen with infections like COVID-19, Epstein-Barr, and CMV potentially triggering conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, Type 1 diabetes, or Sjögren's syndrome.
How viruses trigger autoimmunity
Molecular Mimicry: A viral protein looks similar to a normal body protein, so the immune response against the virus also attacks the body's own cells (e.g., CMV and Multiple Sclerosis link).
Bystander Activation: Intense inflammation from a viral infection causes nearby healthy cells to release self-antigens, which the immune system then mistakenly identifies as foreign.
Superantigens: Some viruses produce proteins (superantigens) that broadly activate immune cells, leading to widespread inflammation.
Tissue Damage: Viral infections can directly damage tissues, releasing internal proteins that the immune system then learns to attack.
Examples of virus-autoimmune links
COVID-19: Linked to new or worsened autoimmune conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis and lupus.
Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV): Associated with increased risk of multiple sclerosis and lupus.
Cytomegalovirus (CMV): Strong links to neurological autoimmune conditions.
Influenza: Implicated in Guillain-Barré syndrome and Type 1 diabetes.
