and plenty of people left the party over that too.

Wonder if Julia Hartley-Brewer would still prefer his lifestyle over Greta Thundberg's?

Archer’s resignation from the London mayoral race after it was revealed he lied in court was the thing that got Paul Foot up from his sickbed and contributing again, having first started chronicling Archer’s lies and misdemeanours in 1969. From the Private Eye archive. Issue 992, December 1999.

You are honestly just twisting yourself in knots trying to defend this.

The wording of the motion is what is stopping people addressing the more serious issues.

I honestly do not understand how you read that post and thought he was siding with Trump!

But that is, in fact, not what he actually said. And he should be judged on what he actually said, not your interpretation.

Sarah Chapman @sinurata.bsky.social · 14h
I don't think he is exactly siding with the president...

I think it's purely because Reform are falling in the polls and they know that most people likely to be attracted by them were Tories.

As someone on here said "The problem is, you can't really say "we condemn this thing" and then only explain in the small print that you are using one particular definition of "this thing" and very specifically not any other definitions, even though a lot of

But that I think is part of the problem - it's THEIR definition of Zionism. That in itself is going to seriously piss (Jewish) people off.

His argument was that all countries are to some extent made up, with tbf is not an unreasonable argument. But it seems weird that it only ever seems to apply to Israel.

No, they tend to get really really angry

Sarah Chapman @sinurata.bsky.social · 19h
Um, there is this thing called the two-state solution? But to answer your question - or at least address it - you could probably argue that ALL nationalist ideologies are essentially racist, though I wouldn't want to bring that up with a Scots Nat.
210
Sarah Chapman @sinurata.bsky.social · 19h
Well, there's someone on there literally arguing that Israel should just be abolished. I don't know which heading that falls under.
220
Sarah Chapman @sinurata.bsky.social · 19h
ALL states are a political creation. Violence was used in the process of creating most states. Why is it only Israel where the response is that it should be abolished?

Sarah Chapman @sinurata.bsky.social · 19h
Go on, keep shifting those goalposts.

That definition literally acknowledges it is disputed within the actual section you quote!

Why? Farage had 7 attempts to get elected before he managed it. Didn't stop him (sadly).

One day away from the campaign trail should really not be that crucial. And you could argue that showing up at conference and showing leadership on a very contentious motion would have given him some excellent publicity. As it is, he just looks craven.

Sarah Chapman @sinurata.bsky.social · 20h
No, it's an ideology. I don't think anyone here is saying it IS a race.
130
Sarah Chapman @sinurata.bsky.social · 20h
No, it doesn't imply that. All I am doing is pointing out - as you do - that most states came into existence in a fairly murderous way. We acknowledge and condemn this in most cases but only in the case of Israel do we go on to question their right to be a state at all.

Literal dictionary definition - "antisemitism: hatred of Jews as Jews".

Sarah Chapman @sinurata.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Yeah, it's just garbage. There are a worrying amount of people here desperately trying to defend the Greens on this.

I don't know exactly what it says in the policy (I did read but have pretty much forgotten) but the fact that they explicitly rejected any protection for members who attend synagogue - and it is any synagogue, actually, is surely deeply troubling?
110
Sarah Chapman @sinurata.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
I think the worry is that they rejected an amendment explicitly protecting members who attend Zionist synagogues.

Members of the Patriotic Alliance are stopping cars with non-white people in them and harassing them like this. This is a hate crime, arrest these people.

Look, I know people often think they are being clever in pointing out that Arabs are Semites too, so antisemitism as a term should apply to them too, but honestly, this is such a pointless argument. Firstly, antisemitism is absolutely established as meaning hatred of Jews, and secondly that argument

There does appear to be clear genocidal intent, though. So you're going to struggle on that one.

Zionism at its most basic is just the belief that the Jewish people are entitled to their own state, though. How far the consequences of this are inevitable is arguable. I thought Caroline Lucas nailed it when she said that Zionism was a response to racism - as well as being racist.

Zionism is essentially a political philosophy, though, isn't it? how can that be a protected belief?

I always say that antisemitism was used as a stick to beat Labour with. But the fact that the stick existed in the first place was key.

Yes, it could. But it would also drive away any remaining One Nation Tories, and anyone intending to tactically vote Tory to stop Reform.

The change won't come in until 2030. Pensions will continue to increase more than inflation (which is more than you can say about earnings half the time!).
