How exciting is it to find these pageant photos from the (now closed) Deuville Hotel in Miami in the Jean Stevens Archive. I’m looking forward to discovering more about which pageant this was & who these women are/were. If you have any insight on who might hold the records for the hotel lmk!

I bought 2 vintage porcelain paintings from an estate sale a few years ago. Today, I turned this broken frame into a cork board for Art’s medication station. I’m so happy with how it turned out. I need to replace the wire on the other one so it doesn’t fall & break, too. But, how cute is this?!

I stumbled across this beautiful photograph of the Twin Towers dated April 1989 in the Jean Stevens Archive.

Vintage 4x6 print of the NYC skyline in 1986 with the Twin Towers standing to the left of the image.

The back of the photo with “Apr 1989” in small red letters.

Because I have been my managing my own financial & housing insecurity, leaning on community has been vital in keeping a significant portion of the archive out of auction. While I really need money for my family’s housing, right now, tonight, I need this. Baby steps. $664 and 8 hours left 🤲🏽

I am so honored to be able to venerate this incredibly multifaceted ancestor. My aim is use the collection to teach other sex workers how to catalog, digitize, & place the materials at institutions through the work I do w/ BIPOC Collective.

The hard drives, VHS tapes, DVDs & vintage airline bags are in storage. Earlier this year, I fundraised for storage. I’m asking again. I need to raise $700 by noon. I just received $50. Thank you for your help 🤲🏽 $isokecreative

I have been actively seeking institutional funding to store & process the archive & find it a permanent home. At the recent BlackSky mixer I met some folks who are interested in helping move forward this project. I’ve been storing the more sensitive material in my home so I can control the temp.

What we found was a 6 decade , multimedia archive from his careers as a flight attendant (‘67-‘72,) security at Show World Video on the Deuce, and a long career as a performer, director, producer, and member of NYC’s kink community.

A few months later, he transitioned. As his family started cleaning out the Bronx home he’d lived in for 54 years, they reached out to friends and said someone “needed to come get all this 🌽 or it’s getting thrown away.” I enlisted @/lilfreakinu @jlbarrow.bsky.social & a few others to assist.

We hadn’t seen each other in years, but I walked through the door and he immediately recognized me, asking me to straighten his linen, and humbled when he realized he needed more care than he realized. Jean demanded that I go to the showers with him, “she’s already seen me naked.” 😅

Last year, I was fortunate to unknowingly visit Jean Stevens aka Big John aka Jean Val Jean in hospice. I met Jean when I was a pup at Show World Video on the Deuce. Jean was a big man, joyful & always with a smile and a dirty story to tell.

A friend invited me to visit her new studio in DUMBO. Her invite said,”bring plant gifts.” So, I showed up with some hand packed, uncured tobacco I grew in my living a couple of years ago and some High John oil I crafted earlier this year.

I’m out of lavender essential oil but I have a jar of homemade lavender glycerite. Chat, these are not the same. I used bergamot on our wool dryer balls instead before handing them to our home attendant. #firstworldproblems

I don't think there is any doubt as to how I feel about my ex-husband.

Text thread reads:

Blue bubble: I hope my ex-husband does in a train wreck when his car stalls on the track as the Metrolinj is going from Union Station to Long Beach.

White bubble: Oh, nice death.

White bubble: Good job!

Blue Bubble: Or a stray bullet grazes his eyeball and he bleeds out slowly.

White bubble: Wow.

So, I really enjoyed this THC tea brand. Their Butterfly Disco Lemonade, White Peach Matcha, and Hibiscus teas are fucking great. I was so excited when the budtender at the dispensary showed me their iced coffee.

Okay so look. We can all agree that these social service systems are repulsive, right? Why these Medicaid niggas “need a letter of support saying we provide Art with room & board?” “He’s 12.“ “I understand, it’s just our policy” “Pardon my French but this is the dumbest shit I’ve ever heard of”

Only Art would go to a memorial service, get handed a mic “so you can rap along with Common,” shake hands with every lady in the building, and come home with glitter on his face from kissing! a lady on the cheek when she went to hug him. Clearly, the tweens are amongst us.
