One Headlight. Shooting the Milky Way and having composed this image, a vehicle emerged from the fog-laden valley below. Initially annoyed, I was to delete this file. But this image has become my favourite from that night's shoot. Take-away, don't delete files in camera. #photography #milkyway
Image title - One Headlight.
Milky-way over snow capped mountain night scene, interrupted by car driving out of the fog laden valley below.

A stunning spiral galaxy with a bright core surrounded by nebulae, stellar nurseries, and gas clouds. Star clusters shine through interstellar dust, while emission regions glow with hydrogen. Amid intergalactic space, this cosmic marvel may hide a dark matter halo. P.S. Science fiction 🌌 Space art

Tomorrow's NASA's Astronomy Picture Of the Day (APOD): colliding spiral galaxies by JWSTand Hubble. 🔭 🧪
Two spiral galaxies take up almost the entire view and appear to be overlapping. The galaxy at left, IC 2163, is smaller and more compact than the galaxy at right, NGC 2207. The black background of space is dotted with foreground stars and extremely distant galaxies.

Today is 29 years since the first SOHO/EIT images of the Sun. Built as a viewfinder for the "real" instruments, EIT was given telemetry for just one image set per day. When we saw the marvels it revealed, that changed fast. Where did the time go? (Thanks to Pierre Rochus for pointing this out). 🧪🛰️🔭☀️
A rendering of the very first SOHO/EIT image of the Sun, collected on 2-Jan-1996. EIT made the first modern EUV movies of the solar corona, deeply changing the way we think about our star's atmosphere.

First clear night in forever, and little Moon, so I pointed the Origin 🔭 for three hours on this beautiful lesser-known star-forming region NGC 7822. Note the cluster of stars on the right, whose radiation and winds are sculpting the gas cloud into fantastic shapes and making it glow.
