I am delighted to discover that "Beside the Seaside - A History of Yorkshire's Seaside Resorts" has been re-released. I had such a great time writing it. If you love Yorkshire and the coast I am sure you would enjoy it. www.pen-and-sword.co.uk/Beside-the-S... #Yorkshire #YorkshireCoast #Heritage

Beside the Seaside
Almost all of us have happy memories of excursions and holidays spent beside the sea. For many, these will have included the Yorkshire coast which…

Oh dear. I used to have one. Does that explain why I talk to other drivers? "You can get a bus through there". No hand gestures though.

It's a fine place, a good beer on tap, the fridges have fantastic stock, and the barman was from West Yorkshire. ⭐

I'm looking forward to trying this, with an order on the way. A good article, good for clone brews, and what would the 2002 brew be like now? From your article, is there an indication of Gale's Prize Old Ale coming out again? I assumed the last batch was the final one.

Good morning all, can anyone suggest pubs & bars in or nearish Stratford, London please? I've a night there before a day's workshop & would love to know your favourite places & beer in the area. Many thanks! #beersky

We have this in Leeds, UK. The GHD Straighteners guru fixed my wife's GHDs, giving me a commentary on the reasons and process for £3.50 plus donation. These volunteers are gold dust in society - priceless.

What did you think? I got a bottle from the brewery at the end of the GOAT Brett festival, it only took me maybe 10 years to pay a visit after the first bottle of theirs I came 3 across 😄

Then Hare & Hounds for a very clear White Rat, and the Younger Turk for a Holts bitter.
A very clear bitter drink on a wooden bar with the hand pull behind it. A half pint of beer in a glass on a wooden table, with the lights off the bar on the background.

And now Black Jack Brew, at the food hall for tea. I asked for a recommendation (avoiding IPAs, there are too many), got 3 samples of Pale Ales, and picked one. Very nice, while I'm waiting for people to turn up.
This is a brewery in a food hall. The bar is green frontage with chalk signs of the brewery and the beers it's serving. A man in a colourful shirt is standing at the bar.

OK, Café Beermoth it is then.

I guess that's the point 😂 Glad I didn't get caramel and spinach. The mushrooms are woody with that spirit edge. I won't put much in, to complement the coffee, and hopefully the chocolate malt will add that type of sweetness 🤞🏻

Cold brewed coffee in 4 days, & the porcini extract (steeped in vodka) added at bottling stage, c12 days' time.

My home brew club is having an "Iron Brewery" competition of 'nice' & 'nasty' ingredients for a fun competition in October. I got coffee & mushroom, so am doing a coffee stout with porcini extract. The brew is done, slightly down at OG1058, & cooling to 18°C before adding Nottingham yeast.

Picked up an old map of Belgium today from a charity shop, to spend hygge (is there a Flemish/French equivalent?) over Winter highlighting breweries for future road trips. The real pleasure of a niche neurodivergent interest, and a lot of beer books to refer to ❤️.

This is the buzz I got from my MA, my introduction to medieval trade & what items were moving round (but not necessarily knowing how). Bede bequeathing pepper, silk appearing in Europe after the Romans, ginger in recipes.

I came across this in the latest phase of sorting through my dad's things. It's a scene from Cornwall, 1980. I love the colours & composition, a reduced palette, painted by my dad. I miss him, there aren't many opportunities to recognise that within myself. I send this picture out to the ether.
This is a watercolour painting. It's still in a pad, and is mainly blue as a palette. It is a plain picture of a Cornish tin mine on the moors (is that right for Cornwall?), with a smoking chimney.

I know we (Europe*) have so many great brewers, beers and malts, but dang (see what I did there) I love the range that continent (& SC) is coming up with. I love reading the socials they do. *Apologies to the rest of the world, I'm just focusing on 2 continents here.

Just come across your post whilst seeing if SC are on here. I would love to visit once 🍊 is gone, since I read about them in Pellicle. They were so helpful in offering to send a small batch of malt to me in the UK but I would've had to sell a kidney to afford postage and customs.

Me: If I keep focussed, I'll get the stuff out of the garage and to the tip, and then bottle the beer. Also me: Hey, how about I drill a water bottle to make drinking easier in the van?
This is a steel water bottle on a wooden worktop, with cream tiles behind. It has an opaque tube in the lid. That's a syphon tube repurposed from brewing.

I agree, a Brett project sounds great. If you do dismantle any, I'd like to buy a little bit for my own homebrew Brett projects, eg ½-1 stave, if you can spare that. In the meantime, I've passed this on to others in the Leeds Homebrew group for their interest.

Last call for these £100 each, ex-French Red wine barrels, 3x filled by us with beer. If no one wants them I may strip these down and make something for @wishbonetap from the wood or clean the heck out of them and start a Brett project.

Following on from the brew day, I've never known liquor run so clear. There was a lot of wheat, and a burnt ring of grist on the base after the mash and boil, despite stirring. The yeast took over a day to get really active, but it's foaming now!
A large boiler is in a black insulation cover, on a wooden trolley, on grey decking. There is a black chilling coil on top of the boiler. There is a red brick wall behind. This is clear liquor running in a mash, in a metal boiler. There are 2 other barrels in shot. This is taken from above. This is where the magic happens. This is a glass carboy fermentation vessel on a shelf in a fridge. There is dark liquid wort in the carboy with thick white foam on top. There is a red handle on the carboy to help lift it.

Today's a surprise brew day, fitted in before we go away. It's a Lambic style with Trois Vrai yeast, to be left on apricots and raspberries in 2 secondary carboys. Carnage seems a good backing album from Nick Cave & Warren Ellis.

What yeasts have you used, anything specific or dregs you've had from bottles? I've only used dregs from bottles so haven't known specifics, whereas my inclination is to know the full details, for comparisons across brews.
