Then Hare & Hounds for a very clear White Rat, and the Younger Turk for a Holts bitter.
A very clear bitter drink on a wooden bar with the hand pull behind it. A half pint of beer in a glass on a wooden table, with the lights off the bar on the background.

And now Black Jack Brew, at the food hall for tea. I asked for a recommendation (avoiding IPAs, there are too many), got 3 samples of Pale Ales, and picked one. Very nice, while I'm waiting for people to turn up.
This is a brewery in a food hall. The bar is green frontage with chalk signs of the brewery and the beers it's serving. A man in a colourful shirt is standing at the bar.

I came across this in the latest phase of sorting through my dad's things. It's a scene from Cornwall, 1980. I love the colours & composition, a reduced palette, painted by my dad. I miss him, there aren't many opportunities to recognise that within myself. I send this picture out to the ether.
This is a watercolour painting. It's still in a pad, and is mainly blue as a palette. It is a plain picture of a Cornish tin mine on the moors (is that right for Cornwall?), with a smoking chimney.

Me: If I keep focussed, I'll get the stuff out of the garage and to the tip, and then bottle the beer. Also me: Hey, how about I drill a water bottle to make drinking easier in the van?
This is a steel water bottle on a wooden worktop, with cream tiles behind. It has an opaque tube in the lid. That's a syphon tube repurposed from brewing.

Following on from the brew day, I've never known liquor run so clear. There was a lot of wheat, and a burnt ring of grist on the base after the mash and boil, despite stirring. The yeast took over a day to get really active, but it's foaming now!
A large boiler is in a black insulation cover, on a wooden trolley, on grey decking. There is a black chilling coil on top of the boiler. There is a red brick wall behind. This is clear liquor running in a mash, in a metal boiler. There are 2 other barrels in shot. This is taken from above. This is where the magic happens. This is a glass carboy fermentation vessel on a shelf in a fridge. There is dark liquid wort in the carboy with thick white foam on top. There is a red handle on the carboy to help lift it.

The highlight of Preston Park's festival today is The Flaming Lips. Yoshimi BTPR, The Golden Path, Do You Realise? and a stonking cover of Black Sabbath's War Pigs. Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds next 🤘🏻

It's mango season in Bradford UK. The first time I've been out to get some boxes from the vans parked up. I was going to make mango chutney, but wow, these are honey mangoes (sp?) and are just too good for that. Delicious!
These are 3 cardboard boxes stacked on a wooden worksurface. The box top features yellow mangoes. We have eaten 3 between 2 of us. This is the fourth yellow mango in a pale yellow sheet is tissue paper in an open box. It looks like a potato, but it's so much nicer.

Last night I finished the '5 minute job' of bottling 2 beers. The bitter is a Worthington White Shield style & finished at 5.7%. The Bière de Garde mixed-fermentation was drier than the original, as expected, but the dregs I used tasted 'flat' later, so I'm hoping that doesn't drag this brew down.
This is a table covered with a black rubber mat, with 2 groups of glass bottles. There's a white plastic fermentation tub behind them, and a yellow plastic bottle stand. In the front, under the table is a cloth to catch the drips from the bottling process. There's a big green Monstera plant at the back, and pictures on the wall.

2 photos to save as a memory for later in the year when it's colder, the view from inside the van. This is overlooking the start of the Baltic Sea, maybe I brew another Baltic Porter when I get back.
This is taken from the motorhome doorway, facing over the Baltic sea. The grass is in the foreground, there's a bit of sand visible, then the sea. There's the awning leg to the right. A photo of the sea, a lot of grass in the foreground, and the awning from the van. There's a tree on the right growing in the low grassy cliff.

2 sides of motorhome touring through Germany up to Denmark. Rural buildings and local beers, mainly helle, pils and kellerbier. The rain has moved on from our forecasts and it's warm. Denmark tonight.
This is a red brick and wood structure in Saxony, Germany. It has wooden doors and an inscription over them. It has green trees on either side. We passed it when we stopped for a walk around Dummersee. This is an aisle in a German drink supermarket. The floor is pale stone, there are multicoloured labels on the crates on either side. Mainly beer here, and soft drinks.

Palm Lager put on tonight with Skare yeast, which is a make do beer - a lager kit with brew/invert/palm sugar and hopefully a Kveik that will take off tonight 🤞🏻. Now enjoying a smoked Fastenbier from Schlenkerla.
This is an Inkbird temperature controller. It's a small case with red numbers showing the current temperature and the desired temperature. It's hanging off a fridge side, also known as my brew chamber. This is trying to get a Kveik yeast up to high temperatures for a lager kit. There is a yellow bungee cord above it, and its manual below it.
Humble brag - I broke it carelessly, and managed to mend it, handy since this model isn't sold anymore.

Peak bourgeoisie! My first crop of wild garlic uncovered from surrounding weeds. Just need to grow polenta and I'll be sorted.
A photo from above. This is of an earth border, centred on green leaves of wild garlic. There are green mossy rocks and other weeds, but this is the first year I've grown some to make trendy pesto.

2 loaves tonight, with sourdough, plain flour, and granary flour. I'm in the "Don't read up, and chuck things together" camp, and yet harbour a little disappointment that these aren't huge. Go figure. Kernel's Imperial Brown Stout is in the glass.
2 loaves on a cooling rack. They are light brown and covered in seeds, onions and garlic (Trader Joe's bagel mix). Behind them is a frosted glass with a dark beer within. They are all on a pale wooden work surface. I love bread and beer, but can only make one of them well.

OK, it doesn't help with your house, but these are our stats. 5 rooms, large space to fill, wifi devices at 3 corners of the house, 3 people on work and social media working fine. The study device was the problem placement but I get a signal in the Faraday cage of that room.

Racking off the Bière de Garde this morning and bottling when I get time. There'll be a demijohn with brett to see how that develops. I had 1 demijohn with a barley wine on mixed yeasts but with the suck back on the tube I used, I couldn't risk bottling it and getting ill. Airlock this time!

Dr Who style foam, step 4 of the mash process. The sparge water is on heating in the 1970s Baby Burco, let's see if the Grainfather app is right or it's too little. No rain!
The brew is further along, there is a lot of light brown foam on top of the black brew tub. There is a white burco boiler on the left for the sparge water, and red gloves to the right. I used those to remove the cover and stir the grist.

Brew day, finally. Getting the Bière de Garde on for a May competition. The plastic tub holds my malt and is a memory from starting brewing with my brother and grandad. It was a Boots brew kit from maybe 40 years ago 😳. Hopefully the rains hold off. #brewsky #beersky

A Japanese frosty glass for tonight's beer. I love the "Abigail's Party" vibe of the basket which I bought in an Oxfam charity shop, just what I was looking for. Cantillon Gueuze Bio from 2020. Rejigged some travel plans, so brought Brussels to me instead. Cheers!

It's not often I have the glass for the beer & I'm marking off 57 years on this planet before adding another year tomorrow. A 5 year old Orval for tonight. I can't remember the fresh taste, but this is a funky tartness, still fizzy (the 1st bottle was a gusher). #brewsky #beersky

Glass: Where you from? Beer: Leeds. B: Where are you from? G: Leeds, as well. Sunday's beer is local to me, with 6music in the background and beginning spaghetti bolognaise for dinner. A medievalist drinking a beer inspired by early modern era events. Niche, and very Eurocentric, please excuse.

Friday's beer is from my archives, aka pulled from a box of beer saved from years gone by. It's very fizzy (foam kept flowing out of the bottle), the oak is pronounced, as expected. That I have the right glass is a coincidence; it's my go-to glass. Good health to you all.

Headed over to The Irish Centre in Leeds last night to see The Dirty Three. What a cracking gig, the best drumming I've heard for a while, great repartee from Warren Ellis, including a long surreal intro on depression, travel & locating Satan, hiding as Billy Joel in his Philadelphian hot dog shop.

I started off a frittata on the stove top, then oven at lunch before taking calls. It rose up like a soufflé but has fallen back down. Lunch tomorrow sorted. Thanks to my brother's hens' eggs. Eggs & onions only. I've had potatoes in before now, but not tied into either of the opposing groups.

A delightful sour from my 'forget it' stock that I've just got out last month. It's still fizzy, there are floral notes, citrus too, wine undertones and ginger coming up afterwards. It's a great delicate brew, just sad that they're not brewing any more, but an inspiration to try this style myself.

The Duvel clone is forming a pellicle, not had chance to get one of those before. This should be interesting to taste before bottling. The original dregs were from a mixture of beers but ended up oxygenated without an airlock so I'm hoping I caught them early enough here. #brewsky.
This is a clear glass carboy filled with a dark brown Duvel clone beer. The carboy has a red rubber seal on the top. The liquid has the start of a white pellicle forming on top of it, which is due to the yeasts and other goodness I added for a bit of funkiness.

I brewed a Duvel clone & split it into 2 vessels, 1 as-is, 1 with Brett/mixed yeasts/bacteria. A starter from 2 Duvel bottles certainly proved powerful. 😂🤦🏼‍♂️ It's ramping up from 21°C to 28°C over 11 days. Unhelpfully, the iSpindel ran out of charge but the Inkbird is accurate on temperatures.

Seems an idea to play this to soundtrack my day. I saw the film A Complete Unknown on Monday. Good film, Timothee played him well. An oft-grumpy individual mistreating people whilst breaking free of the limited expectations forced on him.
