Yes, it's bizarre how little of the discussion is in terms of negligence. "Oh, your engineered ebola went rogue and escaped your lab? No worries, it's literally its own living thing, you have no responsibility" is a thing nobody would say yet for AI that's the whole discourse and it's not even alive

Trump is clearly worse but at least in Europe W wasn't always seen as a great partner either, and he also got elected twice. Even if you have Ossof for eight years after Trump you'll just elect Barron or whatever after.

I think calling a Norway or Iceland kind of arrangement an associate membership wouldn't be that strange. If Canada is interested in that kind of thing is not clear, and it's also very unclear if Norway or Iceland would like that label.

Vore också pinsamt att värva Birgitta Ohlsson som redan har hoppat av ett parti pga Tidö och sen få henne att sluta några dagar efter valet.

This week's #PaperILike is "Latent Programming Horizons in Coding Agents" (Silva et al., 2026). Now seems like a good time to better understand what coding agents are doing. Here's a nice example of the kind of analysis one can do. PDF: arxiv.org/abs/2607.05188

Latent Programming Horizons in Coding Agents
A coding agent solving a software-engineering task spends dozens of steps reasoning, editing code, and running tests, yet little is known about what the underlying language model internally represents...

I see that OpenAI's messaging of "if you give us all the money on Earth we will annoy some mathematicians" is being somewhat overshadowed by Anthropic's messaging of "if you give us all the money on Earth we will kill everyone". I'm slightly worried about what a compromise position might look like.

it’s official: OpenAI claims they solved Navier-Stokes 10,000 concurrent agents coordinated by an internal model (that’s currently still in training) worked for 88 hours openai.com/index/navier...
We're sharing a solution to the Navier-Stokes existence and smoothness problem,
one of the Millennium Prize Problems. This proof, produced by an internal OpenAl system, shows that the dynamics of the Navier-Stokes equations for fluid motion can develop a singularity in finite time. We're sharing both a writeup of the proof and a formalization in Lean.

The OpenAI Navier-Stokes drama is good drama. Did OpenAI train on conversations where mathematicians were working on Clay prize proofs? What should that mean for credit assignment ?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49605915

GLM-5.3-Flash rips the doors off and is under a full MIT license we have, and I mean this literally, a Smart Enough model for almost any task a normal person and many AI perverts can envision, and it is free to use at the same time, inference hardware will only get more accessible to you

The coalition thing is a good argument for multiparty proportional representation. I can just about stand the tiny parties I usually end up voting for and then after the election _they_ can hold their nose in the coalition negotiations so I don't have to.

Yuppy fishbowls at BART might not be enough, and I have seen economic models where they drive up prices. So for people who are concerned with local affordability in the short term it seems reasonable to question the BART density will preserve your old neighborhood narrative.

Martin Singh-Blom @singhblom.com · 20/08/2026
Yeah, I think that is reasonable. I just think there is a decent chance that the demand to live in San Francisco might be big enough that you would need the Tokyo style program that @groverhaustenbosch.bsky.social advocates in a sibling comment in order to satisfy it.

I'm describing a feedback spiral where high rents lead to more housing and higher density, which leads to more people moving there which leads to higher rents, which leads to more housing and more density, etc. It's not like New York has solved housing prices just by having high density housing.

Martin Singh-Blom @singhblom.com · 20/08/2026
I appreciate where this argument is coming from but I really don't know if I believe it for SF in particular. I think it doesn't properly account for the induced demand from more housing being available. I think density creates more demand. You would make it more desirable - like Manhattan.

I do all my hobby projects in Rust these days. The strong typing helps keep the agent honest and I don't have to deal with all the ownership nonsense myself. Lots of people I talk to are doing the same, using Rust for things that would have been Python a year ago.

There's growing evidence the surge into Ceuta (🇪🇸PM Sanchez has called it an "attack") has, like in 2021, been orchestrated by the Moroccan government in retaliation for Sanchez visiting Algeria Yet it's Spain being criticised by European politicians, not Morocco. So much for solidarity.
bbc.com
About 60,000 migrants arrive in Ceuta in 24 hours, Spanish territory's leader says
The estimated number of arrivals is more than 70% of the population of the city, which is about 83,600.

I agree. But that is probably not very comforting if you used to make a living doing audio cleanup for studios and it is now so commoditized that podcasters do it by themselves in two minutes.

Martin Singh-Blom @singhblom.com · 21/07/2026
I mean, isn't this the main reason why people are angry about it? You could have paid an audio engineer to do that work over two days. Most people that worry worry about their jobs. There is an idea that widespread automation will cause widespread job loss.
