I’ve never liked how later games took stuff that’s super contextual to Fusion’s setting like the biomes, insights into Samus’ military life and being stalked by a ‘scary’ monster and decided those are now what Metroid is about. Cause it dilutes why I liked it in fusion

I’m definitely biased since Fusion was my first Metroid so I didn’t really go into it with expectations. I’ve always accepted it as a linear game. I think seeing a closed colour-coded door is less frustrating than seeing like, a big blob I need a new beam to remove

I can see that, they could have worked in a few earlier stealth encounters from before you get the varia suit and ice missiles and it seeing you is still a death sentence I suppose there’s the question of whether stealth in a game like Metroid would be fun but they wouldn’t need to be too long

That was my only point of contention, everything else was really spot on. Especially the stuff about the combat/bosses and maps Ha I will say though, I remember thinking so many powers were glorified keys and thinking at least Fusion was honest by just having doors that a guy unlocks for you
