Europe’s Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) doesn’t release these monthly figures directly in this format. What I’ve done is simply divide ACEA’s absolute monthly figures for battery electric cars by the “total” figures for new car registrations in August. 🧵👇

⚡ NEW: Rigid hydrogen production could sharply drive up EU energy system costs This is probably the coolest EU energy chart you'll see all week. Rigid, inflexible hydrogen production could send annual costs for the EU energy system soaring, according to a new study by the JRC. 🧵👇

⚡ China's Energy Targets vs. EU Energy System The Oxford Institute for Energy Studies (OIES) recently summarised and analysed the energy targets in China's 15th Five-Year Plan (FYP). And I thought it’d be interesting to cross-reference those metrics with energy figures from the EU. 🧵👇

Both the EU Commission and many MEPs keep trying to push the message that Europe's reliance on fossil fuel imports is behind the energy price crisis. I constantly ask myself whether that's actually landing with people — or if it's just triggering sheer anger and frustration. 🧵👇

It could already be guessed: with the planned auctioning of 260 million CO2 certificates, the EU Commission would predictably not be able to fund anywhere near the same amount of carbon dioxide removal. 🧵👇

New figures: Yep, in absolute terms, Germany still has the highest number of electric cars registered among the 13 EU member states. But growth in France remains impressive. 🧵👇

I just can’t get this chart out of my head. It comes from a new study and challenges a fundamental idea of Europe’s industrial transition: that parts of the heavy industry should relocate to the continent’s sun- and wind-rich regions to stay competitive. 🧵👇

I hadn’t expected the reactions – some extremely critical – to the industrial growth target proposed by EU Member States in the Industrial Accelerator Act. On the other hand, it makes sense, as the European Commission’s previous proposal for a 20% blanket target was already slammed. 🧵👇
