Sneak peek. OMG. Shocking. Have another glimpse into what's coming to make up for having to read that.
A mostly white calico creature feature, with stacked Bride of Frankenstein hair, a floaty white dress and a quizzical expression. The caption reads 'never the bride'.

The CatBats are having a ball this spooky season. Here's a sneak peak of the next mystery hybrid creature just for BlueSky. Insta: www.instagram.com/catbats_design

*glares at ragweed* I had to go outside. Am regretting it now. How can one human being sneeze so much?!

This Halloween CatBat has finally disentangled herself from the bandages to reveal it was Mymble causing all the trouble! These are all real cats who I've made into slightly alarming hybrid CatBats for fun, and occasionally a small profit.

Oops, someone got into the medicine cabinet. But who is it?!
A mystery CatBat has become entangled in bandages. The caption reads 'Are you my Mummy?'

My evenings are being particularly painful right now (no idea why), and something about that combined with ragwort allergy brain fog has pitched me into hyperfocus. I now have six whole pieces of Halloween CatBat Art! Would rather have less pain and some sleep, though.

But which way would you do it? Is it a single malt writer's tears or a blended writers' tears? Enquiring minds need to know.

The monster is revealed, it was Atwood all along!
A mysterious catbat floats mischievously on a lime green background with text saying 'Trick or Treat?'. They are disguised by a ghost costume and collecting kibble in their pumpkin-shaped basket.A tuxedo catbat floats mischievously on a lime green background with text saying 'Trick or Treat?'. The cat has discarded her ghost costume which now lies in a heap on the floor, and is in the process of spilling cat treats all over the floor from her pumpkin basket.

I think the thing I always railed against was how little people cared that something wasn't just / right, as long as it didn't affect them personally. The rug is VERY lumpy from all the sweepings under it, but so many people just happily remain ignorant. I could never be happy in my ignorance.

To my shame, Ghostbusters 2. I was afraid to turn on bath taps for fear of pink goo. And for a while, paintings. Must've been a little more than 11 years old (would have seen it on TV) so way past the suspension of disbelief stage :P

Very likely. I thought maybe leaf mold for a while but it's early for that. I think climate change is pushing the ragwort season later and longer.

Dear Ragwort, Are you trying to kill me? Look, I already have chronic fatigue and daily pain. I don't need you trying to muscle in on that, or anything else. Taking more antihistamines isn't doing anything. Eye drops help for 12 minutes only. What do you want?! Not yours, Corinne

Arguably true and I say that as a scientist). Discuss. (By Kathryn Schulz in the New Yorker).
Text in image reads:

With due respect to the innovations of science, fiction remains the most powerful microscope, telescope, seismograph, X-ray machine, and particle accelerator we've ever discovered a way to examine the world at every scale, to reverse causality, to alter time, to identify fundamental properties, to reveal our inner workings and control the conditions of the universe.

I'm convinced AI is our generation's radium - a discovery with genuinely useful applications in specific, controlled circumstances that we stupidly put in everything from kid's toys to toothpaste until we realised the harm far too late where future generations will ask if we were out of our minds.

Spooky season approaches! The CatBats really revel in this time of year. Perhaps you would like to enhance the feeling of the season with a CatBat of your very own? Let me know if you'd like one :)
Three catbats, one tabby, one tuxedo and one ginger, are flying at you through your screen! They're emerging from a stylised cobweb on a purple background decorated with a dark purple leafy pattern.

My research shows up to 10x modern antihistamines are generally safe. But I'm not sure cetirizine actually helps with the mozzy bite in particular, just general skin settling - hence the hydrocortisone.

Corinne 🐈🦇 @simplyunderstand.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
HRT has definitely upped my skin reactions in particular. Had to add cetirizine to my antihistamine cocktail just to tolerate the patches - a med I'd previously dismissed as doing nothing! But turns out it does help with skin stuff more than other antihistamines.

They're an absolute bastard. If I can remember to apply hydrocortisone before I scratch myself to death that calms it some. I used to swear by the evaporative properties of roll on deodorant but it no longer cuts the mustard.

I thought I couldn't have adhd because I'm not remotely hyperactive. Turns out there's a whole other subtype! So now I finally know why everything since starting university has been so, damn, hard. It's good not to blame myself quite so much for always failing down when others failed up.

Corinne 🐈🦇 @simplyunderstand.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
Yep. My brain is *yelling* at me that only glucose / sucrose will do. I don't think it's weird though. All the brain knows is that it hasn't got enough access to energy to keep going. It doesn't care that it's not healthy. The adhd meds do help me a bit with that.

This seems to be the end of a process started in Trump's first term, so not exactly a surprise (not that I was paying attention, so it was still a surprise). I'm not sure UN and HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL should be capitalised together like that, though. Sounds like a very different council indeed! 🧛

Hanging up some art and enjoying the dramatic lighting :)
A spotlight illuminates a framed picture. The picture is a cartoon featuring three figures in their fancy outfits parading along the streets of Whitby during the Goth festival, variously bemoaning the too-bright sunshine, the unbearable angstness of being, and the bloody photographers.

The chronic illness sphere is getting overrun by presentation-like images that claim to explain a condition or aspect of one - but instead its full of overwhelming, irrelevant detail that often conflates symptoms from other diseases and causes more confusion than clarity.

There's so much ignorance in the world. People don't even know what a tablespoon looks like now, outside of a measuring spoon collection. And absolutely no-one has heard of a coffee spoon, or even believes it exists. A travesty :P

Agreed. And how maddeningly simple it now is to get electricity to places. Pakistan's adoption of solar panels has been nothing short of miraculous, for example. Every other convenience should follow, so people are finally free to find out who they want to be (I mean, that's the dream).

Since I'm as privileged as they come it's not me - it's the hundreds of books about life in the early 1900s I read as a kid. Heidi and the Chalet School books were a surprising education in how it used to be for all women, and still is for much of the world.

It's a) what glorious freedom to choose what you spend your physical effort on, and b) in what way is being bent over a tub for four hours a day ruining your back and giving you repetitive strain, also trashing your skin with harsh soaps and chemicals 'good' for you in comparison? No contest.

Corinne 🐈🦇 @simplyunderstand.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
Yeah. Time spent isn't necessarily the only metric here. A washing machines is still infinitely less physically demanding than hand washing.
