I often say we are going through the endarkenment, the age of opinion, an age of individual belief overriding established knowledge, facts, science and where a belief overrides the most basic human rights of whole groups of people...

Is she really arguing that any form of bigotry is defensible as long as someone says "it is my belief that people like me are superior to <insert minority group> so this is a philosophical belief and my actions are therefore protected"?

Was just saying the same thing. A nice list of people to scrutinize Could some of their students now feel that they won't be given a fair chance, fair grading, because of the colour of their skin? Could they even complain to their universities about that?

I suppose this is highlighting who needs to have their views (and probably hard drives too) seriously scrutinized

Yesterday I made lasagna (freshly made ragu, parmesan bechamel, and some homemade pasta) for a friend. Not my best but it still tasted good
A rectangular glass baking dish with a multi-layered lasagna inside, parmesan grated on the top

He seemingly abhors the idea of spending a second more in Clacton than is absolutely necessary

He really hates spending even 10 mins in Clacton, doesn't he?

Education is at the heart of many of our problems and civic education has been virtually non-existent. I remember in the AV referendum feeling appalled by the level of debate and discourse. The quality of the brexit referendum debate was worse still. I worry it would be even worse now

Even Thatcher managed to champion at least one green cause, the ozone layer, and we stopped using CFCs. The ozone layer is healing, slowly, but it is healing and shows that you cannot just leave things to market forces. The problem was discovered, the cause found, and the world acted, it can be done

Does anyone happen to have any leads on any Java Software Engineering roles? 🙏 My partner lost his job, and has fallen into a very dark mental health spiral. It's a very, very bleak and tough time at home right now. Getting him back to work could literally be a lifesaver.

Even if he had, he has stated his intentions to use that child for organ harvesting... Any sensible state would take that child away for him to protect it from abuse

This worries me, raising children as "outsiders", and this raises the possibility of having to apply for pre-settled status or worse paying costly visa fees for their child... More reasons to drive people away

Has anyone done an impact assessment on the children of migrants? Under the scheme a couple of immigrants could come here, have a child but that child is not a British citizen because neither parent had been here for 15 yrs so hadn't achieved settled status... Is that right?

A government department engaging in false economies, looking only at reducing the headline cost of something at the expense of other parts of the economy, wouldn't surprise me.

it has been an exercise in how a directed propaganda campaign can be highly effective, and seeing otherwise liberal people fall for it has disgusted and outraged me. People who lived through and fought against an extremely similar campaign of homophobia in the early 1980s, even!

If it's with Mahmood they could have tried a version of Common People: "I wanna deport foreign people I wanna do what our "hero voters" would do Wanna pander to their "legitimate concerns" Even if it screws our economy too" "Well, what else could you do?" I said, "we will screw trans people too"

Have we started declining in percentage of owner-occupiers? If so, is that going to affect politics in the near/mid term as people feel priced out of it?

The history of places, you were a mining town, a steel town, a fishing town, a textile mill town etc. They built themselves into the identity of the town. That identity is being lost and, yes, it was a masculine coded identity. There has always been a town vs gown thing, class playing a part?

I assume she must have some influence/hold over the party to be able to still be in the cabinet or that "we must try to be just racist and xenophobic enough to pander to Reform voters rather than stand up to Reform's heinous views and hope the left/liberal types will vote for hs" still holds sway

We scored too soon... If we'd scored in the very last minute the "defend so deep that we're in the stands" tactic might work

Yeah, if we'd sat back any further we'd have been in the stands

But, hear me out, instead of a fast penalty to one side at a decent height what about running in, stopping, doing a bit of a shuffle, jogging in a bit more, doing a little dance, stopping dead in front of the ball and then fluffing it straight at the keeper?
