Every successful print seems to uncover two more settings to tweak and another rabbit hole to disappear down! But that’s part of the appeal. Whilst gaming had taken a back seat, 3D printing has filled the gap nicely and given me a whole new set of skills to develop.

My latest rabbit hole has been FDM printing miniatures in PLA. There’s a bewildering amount of conflicting advice out there, but the FDM Miniatures Reddit community has been a huge help. I’m now getting results close to resin (without the mess) that have genuinely surprised me!

My enforced hobby break turned into a surprisingly refreshing digital detox. I even stopped checking Lead Adventure Forum every day! The 3D printer escaped being packed away though, and somehow a useful hobby tool has now become an entirely new hobby. Funny how that happens!

I went through a period of experimenting with different glitter effects to add a shiny, glimmering finish to ice dresses and lightsabers, aiming to make them catch the light and stand out on the tabletop. #Nerdlings #FindFolkFriday

Bloody hell! Digging out some minis for this week’s game and found these three chunky 3D-printed figures I bought and painted last year have cracked open. Looks like uncured resin inside expanded in the May heatwave. Not sure they’re salvageable or even safe now. #wargaming #nerdlings #wargames

Cheers. My colour range is limited (just 14 Speedpaint markers), so the palette isn’t huge, but I’m really pleased with the results. The convenience is a big plus. No water or clean-up needed, and perfect for quick, easy painting sessions, even while watching TV!
