Feel like Iran managing to force a fleet of bombers off a strategically useful base being a massive defeat for the US has been under reported in all of this (if indeed that is what the USA is admitting).

And Britannia Shield sounds like someone I might have spoken to about insuring my Vauxhall Viva.

It’s just starting to hit me how broken this football season is. Everything (the title, league places, relegation cup winners) is going to have a question mark over it until the punishment is set and the appeals are done. It’s going to be a phoney war and a dreadful watch.

And also of State that doesn’t in any way own the football club. If ever there was a demonstration of why there should be an air gap between states and owning football clubs, this is it.

I guess our PM weighing in, and Etihad Airways (wholly owned by gov of Abu Dhabi) threatening to sue shows exactly why anything that looks anywhere near state backed ownership should be nowhere near football.

Seems unlikely City will have gone digging for any incriminating emails and handed them over. And presumably there’s no evidence of a sudden drop-off in Sponsorship revenue in the accounts. Seems to me entirely likely this carried on beyond the period being prosecuted.

Don’t we know because the hacker didn’t get to that? Given City are digging in and saying no wrong doing, presumably whatever was going on carried on? I’m guessing there is no chance the sponsors suddenly started stumping up the full amount.

So, my other thought having read the PL report on #mcfc - The table that shows each years supposed sponsorship values, and the amounts actually covered by the sponsors, which by the end was £140m vs £11m. What happened in the next year?

Tell me you’ve given up on winning the next election without telling me that you’ve given up on winning the next election.

Quite, it’s a bit like saying we don’t like the offside rule, and preferred football before it had offside, so we paid off some Lino’s to not enforce it for us, and we think that’s fair enough.

Genuinely feel like there’s no ‘fix’ adequate to be honest, whatever happens it’s just a mess looking back and forwards now. Main thing is that owners who do that shouldn’t get to stay owners.

Just read the document and that feels about right in terms of sanctions, but surely they won’t? Will they?

I know this sounds harsh, but it’s the only way to avoid years of individual legal claims, punish those who did the crime, reset the game to pre-cheating levels and not mess up this season.

For me, that is - 81 point penalty (9pts x 9yrs) All titles redistributed 08 - 26. All clubs up 1 place, prize money re-cut, with the clubs required to pay bonuses due to players/coaches. A 9-year ban from the premier league. The execs declared not fit, and required to leave their posts. 2/3

For me the punishment must - 1. Reflect the magnitude of the offence relative to Everton and Forest. 2. Compensate those who lost out to the cheating in the past. 3. Undo the long term advantage City gained from the foundations the cheating built. 4. Punish the execs responsible. 1/3

I don’t see how the owners can be considered fit and proper persons (not for the initial offences, more for the relentless denials). I think they should be forced to sell the club alongside the sport sanctions you mentioned. Not sure how you begin to compensate those who lost out to it though.

Fair to say that was a masterclass from the officials. Two examples of ‘minor violent conduct’. One gets a red, the other gets nothing. Then they can’t implement their own offside rule. What a mess modern football is.

I know there is no chance this will happen as it’s in the ‘turkeys voting for Christmas’ category, but how about a progressive tax on political donations? (First 10k untaxed, 10k-100k 30%, 100k - 1m 60%, 1m+ 90%?).

This is the key point. A disproportionate agenda driven pile-on is more of a distinguishing feature than the humiliation, which I don’t think is the aim (the human is treated as irrelevant).

I’m sympathetic to the suffering of victims relatives, but a parade of them saying the punishment isn’t enough is both understandable from their point of view but unhelpful in the broader context. If you lose someone you love to a violent crime, no punishment is enough I imagine. Less of this, and

I’m behind the argument that immigration is a net economic good, but I am struggling to make this add up. Isn’t that £100,000k to the treasury for each immigrant? Sounds high.

Little bit saddened the remaining UEFA teams aren’t discussing an immediate boycott unless the Balogun decision isn’t put back as it should be.
