So turns out my writer brain is equal parts Laura and Erik…

Uh oh I think one of my short stories wants to be a full length novel 🫣

Hi I just finished @ceejthemoment.bsky.social’s American Rapture and IM NOT OKAY. But I think this is gonna be one of my favorite books of the year, if not all time.

Lauren Simonis @simonislauren.bsky.social · 29/04/2025

Looks like I need to move up some books on my TBR (but I am currently reading American Rapture and OH BOY is it creeping me out)

I have three stories officially drafted for my #horror motherhood anthology I’m writing. It’s strange to go back two years to when my son was an infant but I’m feeling really good about these pieces.

Lauren Simonis @simonislauren.bsky.social · 20/04/2025

Update: first story has a first draft!

Lauren Simonis @simonislauren.bsky.social · 20/04/2025

Okay so I JUST finished Wake Up and Open Your Eyes. My thoughts: - wtf did I just read!? (Complimentary) - is @claymcleod.bsky.social okay!? - this may be one of the most disgusting books I’ve read (also complimentary) - if you like weird wtf horror and hate Facts News (👁️) you NEED to read this.

YOU GUYS I am having so much fun working on this horror motherhood anthology. I can’t remember I had this much excitement over an idea. #horrorwriter #writercommunity

I just started @claymcleod.bsky.social’s Wake Up and Open Your Eyes and I can already tell I’m in for a wild ride. Although I think I always am with his books (in the best way possible)

Genius. I’m also trying to not plot too much on this one because maybe that’s adding to the scaries (because I can’t screw it up if I don’t know where it’s completely going!)

010

Lauren Simonis @simonislauren.bsky.social · 07/04/2025

Like I *know* first drafts are messy and you can go back and change and make edits. But for some reason diving into that first draft is just intimidating

Lauren Simonis @simonislauren.bsky.social · 07/04/2025

Anyone else get to the point that they’ve plotted out (in however much detail) their new WIP and it’s time to write but you’re too scared to start because what if you screw it up????

The amount of times my husband asks genuine questions about how publishing works makes me so thankful I have a partner that supports my goal of being a published author.

What does the market look like for YA (either in general or specific to YA horror). I’ve seen some people say YA is really challenging right now.

Update: I know EXACTLY what this book is and I can’t wait to write about this anxious sophomore who wants to be an activist social media journalist.

Lauren Simonis @simonislauren.bsky.social · 04/03/2025

Did I have a nightmare last night and shouted waking up myself and my husband? Yes. But it *did* spark opening lines to a book so I’m just gonna take that as a W and chase down whatever this book is.

Hey all, I have a specific request this AM. There's an urgent situation involving this (which Martha references in the original description), and the total needs to be doubled. Martha's OOO so I don't want to bother her to change the amount, but I'm asking for your help. gofund.me/505857f2

It is perfectly legal to know your rights and to educate others about them, too. EVERYONE in the United States, citizen or not, has rights. I will not allow this administration to intimidate us from helping you know about them. Here’s our shareable guide ⬇️: (pt. 1/2)

KNOW YOUR
RIGHTS
IN CASE OF ICE:
CONOCE TUS DERECHOS
EN CASO DE ENCUENTRO CON ICE:

DO NOT OPEN YOUR DOOR.
ICE cannot enter your home without a warrant signed by a judge.
Tell the agents to show you the warrant by sliding it under the door.
NO ABRAS TU PUERTA.
ICE no puede entrar a tu casa sin una orden firmada por un juez. Diles a los agentes que te muestren la orden deslizándola debajo de la puerta.

ASK THEM
TO LEAVE.
If ICE doesn't have a warrant, tell them you do not consent for them to enter your home and ask them to leave. At work, ICE cannot enter employee-only areas without permission.
2

REMAIN SILENT.
You have the right to remain silent.
If the agents ask you questions, tell them,
"I wish to remain silent."
PERMANECE EN SILENCIO.
Tienes derecho a permanecer en silencio.
Si los agentes te hacen preguntas, diles:
"Deseo permanecer en silencio".

Well it’s official: I’m #amquerying again! I’m sending out my YA horror with bisexual/anxiety rep about a girl who is trying to stop the monster in the woods from getting her brother all while being distracted trying to solve the cute new girl’s problems. It’s Courtney Gould x YELLOWJACKETS

Found out that TWENTY emails is considered a lot to politicians on an issue. TWENTY. As in, they call that getting slammed. So next time you see a request to email your rep, or call, keep that in mind. TWENTY is a lot.

Call script:

YOU: Hi, my name is [NAME]. I’m calling from [ZIP CODE].

YOU: I am calling on [HOUSE MEMBER/SENATOR] to speak out against President Trump’s actions on Monday in freezing all federal aid. This is blatantly illegal; the Executive Branch can’t unilaterally decide to ignore laws that were passed by Congress, especially when it comes to financial aid.

YOU: MOC must take action, and clarify how they will stop the freeze and ensure that the millions who are directly impacted by financial aid will not be harmed.

YOU: [OPTIONAL COMMENT]
