gotta take the 7th century yogacara stance (“actually, the practice is only used for particular cases, and the western buddha field isn’t a place for normal people”)

I need shows to do less flashbacks

oh no, it’s because there were four variations (Amazing Scarlet Spider, Spectacular, Web of, etc)

I still have all the Scarlett Spider #1 issues 😅

I somehow didn’t even play W3 until earlier this year, then gave up early in because the ps5 visual update was so bugged. It’s like they made this for me. Saves even transfer over?!

Quite sorry to hear about this. I always recognized and enjoyed seeing photos of Frank in my feed and hearing about his goings-on.

Oh, it’s a thing about you, but definitely not a surprising one. You know some people have the genetic trait that makes cilantro taste like soap? You have the one where you know a European prog metal concept album band is on the bill by how your knee flares up

brb allocating another 300-900 MB for another company's proprietary software suite to be installed and run perpetually in the OS background where it will naturally spirit away data and then at some point will stop development

we're all eking by indefinitely on any old hardware storage and memory we can use, bewitched by some Soviet curse, and yet every basic type of service, smart device, app, and software or OS version update is designed to require more exclusive dedicated memory

Perversely fascinating to see new NAS and RAID-capable arrays coming out these days which are reasonably priced and innovative

I remember we all found the second disc so bizarre and frustrating at the time, and clearly it must’ve been due to time/budget crunch to complete and ship such an ambitious project, but in hindsight it was mostly a visual novel, which makes it way more palatable today!

kinda like Vampire Hunter D in the movies and stories when he’s by himself but then suddenly starts getting taunted by that weird little cackling guy living on his hand

We tried to nominate him for an honorary degree at McMaster but he didn’t really want it since he had one from McGill. We nominated him for his contributions to the understanding of religion.

unfair to challenge any newer wolverine game to match that soundtrack—even just the opening titles

Well, maybe the most iconic example of this was John Dee and Edward Kelley, where when they first purportedly made contact with the archangel Michael, “in order to test that it was really him,” their first question/task was for him to locate some buried treasure (not sure if it succeeded).

When I last rewatched the Disney cartoon for the first time in decades, I'd somehow forgotten entirely that Hook with total exhausted disdain early on just murks his own dandy bard crew member enjoying his break time in the crow's nest. Laughed pretty hard seeing that again.

Deliberating all evening whether to change my desktop background to a Caspar David Friedrich painting or a Moebius. Couldn't decide so I defaulted to the safe usual choice (something awe-inducing from the NASA or US Geo Agency's picture-of-the-day archives).

All the billionaires this morning opening their physical newspaper in their three-piece suit, reading this story, their cigar falling off of their gaping open mouth, stumbling ash and embers multiple times before landing on their oxford shoe. After 30 seconds they suddenly yelp, leap at the burning

I mean, we all have to deal with pettiness in every strata of society and life all the time; adding an unnecessary always-on social media dimension to it all, which is even pettier than anything before it, is crazier than any of the AI psychosis stuff.

Did I mention I have the same last name as the directors? Funny thing is I don’t think the movie is so depressing when you consider in ten years he’ll have a normal job and normal life and have moved on.

If it makes you feel any better, Inside Llewyn Davis is basically my life story and persona at 29, and as I left the theater, the only other patrons, two attractive young women, told me they couldn’t believe how depressing it was and then acknowledged concerningly that I even looked kinda like him 😅

a mundane but impressively hideous crisis of modern life: the complicated multi-step cleaning process it is to remove, from anything at all, that adhesive gunk left by cheap generic retail stickers

the Hamilton discourse is really just: 1) H was fine but also very oversaturated as a phenomenon, and 2) the point at which something is the most culturally uncool is in the decade after its initial peak influence

It’s definitely the interesting aspect, as that stuff is its unique and surprising auto/random spontaneous movement. While I am not suggesting it means super AGI is imminent and inevitable, this kind of “daydreaming” hints at the sorts of mutations that end up important across evolution.

Glad you could point that out. It’s from the single’s page, but isn’t mentioned on Timbaland’s main page: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Do_It_(... That the original composer didn’t have copyright presumably was known to Timbaland, hence why he used it. The issue to me is that he didn’t actually write it.

I was active in this scene and remember this happening at the time. He basically lifted the track while he was using a Commodore 64 or Amiga to produce sounds with. Not saying he’s not talented, but this was really not cool.

It’s not especially coherent, but seems like the point is that the Engineers understand they potential malevolence and danger to bio/synth life engineering and are shutting down the programs, but it becomes a Greek Tragedy where their actions still doom them by causing humanity accidentally

Original engineer might not take goo but their dying still leaves the molecular basis for life/humans on Earth; original goo is engineered in making weapon by David to genocide Engineers; then the Xenomorphs are from a long process/line of David’s genetic exp and breeding of goo-related alien forms

A personal library is the ultimate ambiance for the home or office as well. Even if you don’t read them all, every book you buy in person and keep in your library becomes a unique memory as well (this is an overlooked tragic aspect of ordering books online, even using independent shops!).
