--- Das nehme ich gelassen. Es stimmt ja, ich bin keine Forscherin, und das will ich auch nicht sein. Dennoch werde ich mich für die Forschung in Deutschland und im internationalen Kontext einzusetzen. Ich will Wissenschaft die nötige Freiheit geben und dabei die Finanzierung und unnötige rechtliche Hürden in den Blick nehmen. Wenn wir ein interessanter Forschungsstandort bleiben wollen, müssen wir da etwas tun.

Der ehemalige Titanic-Chefredakteur Tim Wolff, der zwischenzeitlich auch Chef-Autor des ZDF Magazin Royale war, antwortete in einem ZEIT-Interview einmal, angesprochen auf den neuen Comedy-Journalismus, den seine Redaktion da macht: »Aber wer weiß, vielleicht verschwindet diese Form der Satire ja demnächst wieder. Die Geschichte der Komik geht zwischen Dominanz von Nonsens und aufklärerischer Satire hin und her.« Hat sich die Prophezeiung nun erfüllt? Kehrt die Comedy zurück zum Quatsch? Das wäre jedenfalls nicht die schlechteste Aussicht. Die schlechteste nämlich wäre, dass alles gleich bleibt – und sich nur das politische Vorzeichen ändert. Kommt nach Böhmermanns linksliberaler Aufklärungssatire jetzt die rechtsliberale Aufklärungssatire? Jan Fleischhauer, der seit letztem Jahr eine ZDF-Sendung moderiert, Donnerstagnacht um viertel vor eins, wartet gewiss auf einen Anruf. Es wird ein schöner Sendeplatz frei.

Second update on this. For what it's worth, they're at least acting in some way:

I wanted to update you that we have now reviewed the matter with the relevant editorial team and have followed up with the authors regarding "Analytical Challenges and Opportunities in the Extraction, Separation, and Identification of Food Phospholipids" (1743161).

As a result, we are asking the authors to submit a correction as soon as possible. The correction should include a revised and clarified version of the relevant figure, including the embedded chromatograms and mass spectra, as well as an amended generative AI statement to reflect the tools used in preparing the figure.

thank you for your email and your invite to scope a research topic for Frontiers in Nutrition. However, I have to decline this invitation.

Amongst other reasons, just this week I noticed an article in this very journal that had clear signs of AI use in figures, despite Generative AI statement claiming the opposite (Email copy attached). I am generally very concerned to witness how generative AI is corrupting the scientific record and, specifically, by the lack of editorial and review oversight that let this paper just slip through and get published in this case. From sharing this with colleagues on social media I can also vouch that I am not alone with this concern. Therefore, I do not want to be associated with this journal.

I am awaiting your response on my concerns regarding the publication mentioned above and ask you to refrain from further invitations.

Der überwiegende Teil wies zwar keine deutsche
Kennzeichnung auf – die Aufmachung war jedoch
unmissverständlich: die Produkte sollten zu einem
erfüllten Liebesleben verhelfen, ganz natürlich mit
Pflanzenextrakten z. B. aus Ginseng, Epimedium,
Maca oder Tribulus terrestris.
Tatsächlich war jedoch der Arzneistoff Sildenafil enthalten, der in verschreibungspflichtigen Arzneimitteln
zur Behandlung von Erektionsstörungen eingesetzt wird. Alle 5 Proben beurteilten die Sachverständigen
als gesundheitsschädlich. Vom Verzehr derartiger Produkte wird dringend abgeraten, da das Risiko für
Überdosierungen und Wechselwirkung mit anderen Medikamenten besteht und Sildenafil nicht ohne
Grund verschreibungspflichtig ist.

But chemistry is large, and contains multitudes. The dump-in-some-more-reagent crowd co-exists with the inorganic and organometallic specialists who live lives of Schlenk lines and rigorously maintained gloveboxes, who in turn find room for the analytical chemistry specialists who might spend as much time troubleshooting their equipment as they do generating results with it. There’s room for all of us, and that’s a good thing, because there’s a need for all of us too!

Warum dann nicht auf Milch. Oder Liköre? Oder Bier und Wein, da ist ja auch noch ein bisschen Restzucker drin.

Die von der Bundesregierung geplante Zuckersteuer soll nach Informationen der „Bild“
auf deutlich mehr Getränke erhoben werden als bislang bekannt. Neben Limonaden sollen demnach auch Säfte, Milchgetränke, Eistees, Biermischgetränke und Fertigkaffees mit der Steuer belegt werden. Selbst zuckerfreie Getränke mit Süßstoffen wie Cola Zero sollen demnach besteuert werden. Die Zeitung beruft sich dabei auf ein Papier des Bundesfinanzministeriums.

Die Abgabe soll laut dem Bericht bereits 2027 starten. Bislang war ein Beginn im Jahr 2028 vorgesehen. Die Bundesregierung will mit der Steuer den Zuckerkonsum senken und zusätzliche Einnahmen erzielen.

Anders als zunächst geplant, soll es sich nicht um eine zweckgebundene Abgabe zur Stabilisierung des Gesundheitssystems, sondern um eine allgemeine Steuer handeln. Finanzminister Lars Klingbeil (SPD) rechnet für 2027 mit Einnahmen von 650 Millionen Euro, danach mit jährlich 450 Millionen Euro.
