@tgoerke.bsky.social says at 11/17 "They (researchers) know their institutional credentials are time-limited privileges that end with the contract". That's not the case with the tnc progressives. They have an eID that addresses this already in schools. We're just bridging this R&E divide.

Fantastic!. I must explain why I'm banging the lifelong learning (eID) rather than a subset. This is from last year's tnc. for the guys who run the R&E networks. Christoph, the most progressive, talks about lifelong learning, again, after 14 years. tnc26.geant.org/programme/#T... 1:03:14

Recap of yesterday's CIDS assembly at TUD @tudresden.bsky.social Philipp @lorenzspreen.eurosky.social had a proper booth for the Synosys poster. I brought an A3 print, and people found that funny. That's a resource allocation problem. The real value was the conversations, so here they are 🧵
Quadrant 1 of the A3 poster “Open science on open infrastructure”, CIDS Mitgliederversammlung 2026. Headline: “Empowering science communities”. Text: open, democratic, researcher-owned infrastructure for publishing, curating, sharing and discussing research, built on the AT Protocol. Three points: a community, an ecosystem, a movement. Two QR codes: the @atproto.science Bluesky account and “Join the community”.

Giggle! When I read these kinds of wonderful opinions I have this strange compunction to trace back to the place where they came from. And usually, after doing so, never do again.

That was nice. Anna, this separation between those wanting to verify and those that don't has gone on too long. Would you consider tis approach? to a panel discussion at the AT conference? bsky.app/profile/simo...

I've made that brilliant suggestion to @gui.do already. A panel discussion. Let's be clear, It's not "them" & "us". Its @anna.wsocial.eu and her preferred supporter. @robin.berjon.com and his. @bnewbold.net & (maybe) @wseltzer.bsky.social 2 more and an experienced interviewer Your vote?

Similar approach to the R&E market. The "wallet" is the common factor. e.g. This is the swiss NREN. www.switch.ch/en/insights/... So would you and Robin consider a similar presentation for this conf. The banner I'd use is "Digital Sovereignty". tnc27.geant.org/submit/

Ok. Hopefully you've got that off you chest. I'm nicking that second "Bewilderment" para. Brilliant! So Robin will give the .be demo next week, and hopefully that .ee demo will offer viewers the Euro-wide view. Pennies drop after demos. So its eIDAS for the govs' authentication

That's why I put the demo up. 24 countries so far. You can see the eIDAS legislated "mandatory" attributes - the standard so far. I have mentioned the edugain guys (R&E sector) are trialing linking between eIDAS (few attributes) and edugain accounts (lots of creds).

Its taken almost a decade for the eIDAS legislation to push these developments so far. The eID & "Wallet"offer a user-centric view of accessing public services (hopefully) across Europe. Social media stuff is really just the surface layer. i.e. only a few attributes required.

@mathewlowry.eurosky.social Could we focus on the point you've made here mathewlowry.leaflet.pub/3mxgh342lsc2... Its not so much "a matter of verification properly". It's the best balance between a citizen keeping their privacy and getting access to european service, so far.

That's great chris. Is there anyway we can get these people who run conferences to "backend" into atproto, so anyone can follow these developments? Its just so boring. getting reports to, during, and sometimes after, (related) events.

Presently, you're getting crushed between the (L&R) extremes. If you're trying to start a religion, well and good: pretty dangerous and unrewarding path though. My advice? Start at the centre. bsky.app/profile/simo...

that's it. But take the "path of resistance" choose one PDS, and one PDS operator (for as long as you trust them). We live in an R&E world where the R (oldies) and E (youngies) has collapsed. "Less progressive" National R&E network managers struggle with that. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nationa...

Is there a chance we could have a focus on this. There doesn't appear to be any form of agree strategy for the Atmosphere; or any coherent collaboration happening between PDS operators. There are just (lovely) software-focussed 'another feature' communities.
