Would be nice if we could. (Those f*ckers disabled license servers for older versions, so I lost all access to my legal but old copy when I had to switch to a new PC rather suddenly. May their company crash and burn.)

It'll all make sense once you've tried the whole offering. 😜

Well, the German car industry lobby is corrupt, manipulative, buying politicians, and preventing a lot of progress that would make communities safer and more able to adapt to climate change. Sounds a lot like Big Tech. 😬

LOL. Given the shitty rates they're being paid, phoning it in is exactly the right thing to do.

Just want to point out that many of those workers don't use "AI" because that's where their knowledge comes from but because they're being exploited and are extremely underpaid. Why bother putting in real work when you know the billionaire techbros don't care about you either?

Researchers from Stanford claim humans actually have two brains – which is cool because the same university can now ruin two brains for the price of one with all the GenAI shit they're forcing upon students and the academic community. 🙄

But all my translator colleagues who use "AI" to translate confidential documents keep telling me the data are safe as long as I'm paying for a subscription. Are you telling me, they are wrong...? 😱😱😱 /s

Also worth remembering that Jacob Cockson & co. didn't even say "in 10 years" but within the next 4 years ("by the end of the decade"). So, considering the "improvements" of ChatGPT etc. over the past 4 years.... suuuuuure. 🙄

Was about to post the same. The "AI"-generated Trending section has been a shitshow all year. Full of errors, trends from days ago, and often leading to posts that have nothing to do with the trend.

It's always so weird and telling when these dudes claim they're credible because they "lost" a paycheck. Like they haven't already filled their pockets and will continue to fail upwards... 🙄

Come on, don't fall for this. It was a PR move, plain and simple. Because before this stunt, they had already willingly entered into partnerships with technofascists like Thiel/Palantir & co., so all the ethics blabla they spouted was hot air. Their actual actions spoke a different language.

If you claim the above is false, then your statement must be considered false as well because it's equally imprecise and misleading. Predicting the weather/climate based on hard facts is very different from predicting human behavior (the weather doesn't have emotions, mood changes, etc.).

FFS, that's not new either. Companies and orgs have been doing this for a looong time. The longer CNN snippet also says that Donald Trump is president. So you're saying this fact is pleasing to Bluesky users and antagonizing to X users? Come on, do you still know how to think for yourself?!
000
Simone Linke @simonelinke.com · 31/08/2026
No, it really doesn't. We've known for ages that, e.g., Fox News tells viewers a very different story than, e.g., NBC. But different snippets online with shorter/longer wording due to character limits, platform characteristics, SEO, etc.? That's a nothingburger.
100
Simone Linke @simonelinke.com · 30/08/2026
How exactly is this mere fact supposed to "please" me? (Asking as a Bluesky user who also understands that platforms have different character limits and content is different all the time for SEO reasons etc.)

The GenAI & bots shitshow on Bluesky is in full swing. This is what Bluesky is currently showing as of August 13, 8:20 a.m. CET, when the polls have just opened. #Clacton #Farage
Screenshot of the Bluesky interface with a focus on the trending topics. The top topic is "Farage wins Clacton seat" (but polls have just opened and no results have been declared). When you click on this trend, the BlueSky interface's top heading starts with "Count Binface also stood" (the past tense is not a typo made by me).

The worst excuse I've heard so far is, "I'm ok with the harms Twitter/X causes b/c that's where the official accounts related to a sport I follow live." This came from a Polish woman who regularly posts about dangers of "AI", surveillance, etc. and seems to have enough common sense to know better. 😫

To some extent, yes, there's a need for stronger punishment. BUT: Where does it all start? With the fraudulent "AI" companies and all their false advertising, false promises of accuracy, false claims about the quality of data, etc. Sue **those** bastards into oblivion first before punishing others!

The chat is totally messed up now. What kind of vibe-coding clown came up with this BS? The content is off-centered, massive amount of whitespace is blocking the screen for no reason, and the left menu is reduced to icons and cannot be expanded, which is also inconsistent with the feed view. #fail

The only fact here is that you're spouting nonsense and ignoring the context in which people made their remarks about the uselessness of "AI" (specifically, currently hyped-up LLM shit). You're just a tool for the fraudulent "AI" companies.
0150
Simone Linke @simonelinke.com · 24/05/2026
You're not making much sense. One moment you're talking about "non-LLM" and well-established stuff but then you're back to "we're just 3 years in", now you're suddenly talking about in-house vs. public, which also has nothing to do with established machine learning stuff. Put your thoughts in order.
1150
Simone Linke @simonelinke.com · 24/05/2026
The stuff you're talking about has been in the works for much longer than "like 3 years", and the person you responded to referred to "these days' AI", i.e., the LLM shit currently getting hyped up as "AI" with the intent to muddle the terminology & make dissent impossible. Pls think yourself.

There's a whole list (compiled by Prof. D. Monett) here: monettdiaz.com/books-critic... If you check out titles & blurbs, you can probably determine whether something might be too technical for you but I think quite of few of these should be ok for non-specialists (e.g. Bender/Hanna's "The AI Con").

Running 1 experiment with just 1 short text (nowhere near novel-length), only 4 translators, and 1 language pair and several caveats in the discussion does hardly mean "many empirical studies confirm my claim." I'm gonna mute you now b/c you're clearly just googling links and haven't read the texts.
040
Simone Linke @simonelinke.com · 14/05/2026
Again, you're just showing you don't really know this industry. We're not talking about standardized texts where all you do is confirm some machine output. We're talking about creative works.

Tell me you don't know how translation works without telling me... and so on.
150
Simone Linke @simonelinke.com · 13/05/2026
Exactly! Plus, there are already some early studies examining how the "priming effect" makes it harder for creative translators to find the best wording because the machine-generated stuff is clogging their brains. 😫 (For reference: slator.com/post-editing...)

It's the same in my industry (translation/localization). Amazon/Audible is about to start a project where they machine-translate books (ewww!) and then expect humans to fix the crap and ensure "literary quality" at a speed of 2500 words per hour (normal would be ca. 1500 at best). #boycottAudible

All the people saying her image clearly had no influence clearly don't know how insidiuous marketing can be and how there's a whole industry trying to figure out how to subliminally influence buyers.

Simone Linke @simonelinke.com · 11/05/2026
It's meant the other way round. You may be able to avoid doing it (and kudos to you!) but when you actually want to read human-written stuff, you now have to wade through endless slop to find it.

My point was about you (unintentionally) doing the "AI" companies' bidding by phrasing it like this and making it sound like the only two options are "let's bomb shit based on bad data and (human) decisions" or "let's bomb shit based on bad data and (bot) decisions." Let's shift the narrative!
