I know someone with a camera for filming arseholes, but they're a colonoscopist.

Did you watch the original cinematic version, or the later Robert Wise and David Fein Director's Cut? Apparently when the cinematic version went out, its release was rushed and a lot of the 'we'll edit that down' bits didn't get edited down at the time so it comes across as a bit slow.

Between about 55 and 60, I lost 3 back teeth to cracks right down to the root from grinding them too much. I keep thinking about getting them replaced with implants, and then looking at the price.

...there were lots of little documentary inserts about the history and social significance of the bakes. Then they stopped those and the inserts are now all contestant back-stories. I feel like having a back-story is now as important as having the skills to get onto these competitions.

I think, like DIY-SOS and similar, there has to be some emotional backstory to the project. Otherwise you'd just tell them to pay to get it fixed, or pay for the builders to come in. However, I think in some cases the need for a backstory is taking over. When the Great British Bake Off started...

How widespread was the use of the unofficial instructions? Personally I never used them as I like to stay within the bounds of the datasheet, and after a few years of the NMOS 6502,I moved on to the 65C02 where many of those opcodes became documented new instructions and extensions of the originals.

Inflation has rendered the term ‘multimillionaire‘ unhelpful. There was a time (1960s) when having over £/$1 million put you in the very rich category. Now,as you say, it’s a typical homeowner in a major city who’s saved for their retirement, and the term encompasses comfortable, rich and very rich.

I think the problem was that the episodes started stretching from 30 minutes to 45, and then into hour+ marathons. Half an hour is about the right length for a Ted Lasso episode.

Until November 1982 there were only 3 TV channels. (kind of, ITV was divided into regions, and if you were in a cross-over area and could get two regions, you could choose between regional variations to the programming. Living in Luton as a kid we got Thames and Anglia)

That SWTPC 6800 in the centre is the first microcomputer I ever used. I was at school in the 1970s and the Computer Science teacher had made a couple of them. One was set up as single user, one as multi-user. Prior to that the very first computer I used at school was a PDP8/e. That was about 1978...

My solvents and solder fluxes come in different shaped bottles. I usually use a Gü ramekin padded out with plasticine as a base to stop them tipping. Stops the bottle tipping over, plus you get to eat a Gü.

As an owner of an Acorn Atom, the addresses $80-$AF and $21C-$23F were my magic. These were unused by BASIC/OS.The first was a useful ZP range to communicate data in and out of your machine code, the second was 36 bytes for short machine code that you didn't have to specifically allocate memory for.

Oddly many early computer keyboards eschewed the semi-colon/colon on one key, and put them in different places - e.g. the ASR 33 teletype has colon/star and semicolon/+ keys, a scheme duplicated on the Acorn Atom, Dragon 32, Nascom 1, TRS80 and probably others around the late 70s, early 80s.

As a teenage 6502 programmer I could never get my head around ($XX,X) addressing, and ignored it. I used ($XX),Y all the time though. After many years of using C, I can see how arrays of pointers might have been useful.
000
simondo65.bsky.social @simondo65.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
Remember that the addition of X+$xx in LDA($xx,X) wraps around, so if $xx+X > 255, the final address is still taken from zero page instead of page 1. Wrap around also occurs if the X+$xx ends up being $FF, or if you do an LDA ($FF),Y. The low byte of the pointer is from $00FF and high from $0000

... space. Different options had different (or no) interrupt and RDY combinations. Not sure apart from the 6507 which actually made it into products. The 650x had basically the same die as the 6502, but less connections out, and internally tied pins, while the 6510 was a new die with IO features.

simondo65.bsky.social @simondo65.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
I don't think the 6507 was 'custom' as such. The official 650x datasheets list the 6502 and then various smaller package variants 6503-6507, the 6512 (a 6502 with 2 phase clock inputs) and 6513-6515 smaller package with 2 phase clock. The smaller packages were standard parts with 4K or 8K address...

Language is a tricky one -it’s a sliding scale between using period correct localised expressions, period correct intonation and grammar and using a completely different language altogether.Where do you draw the line if you want a modern international audience to be able to follow what’s being said?
