There are major account take-over problems happening right now on mastodon instances - all appearances are that the actor is using stolen passwords, probably from malware running on desktops. I've suspended hundreds of compromised accounts over the past 48 hours, but only two on mine. If you […]

I know Kat to be someone who has worked hard for people in #Gaza, and who runs campaigns for people I support. I can completely understand how she has got herself into this problem; she genuinely deserves your help.

Of course, I'm going to need a crane to raise the frame of this new cabin. So, of course, I made one.
In the foreground, the trusses of the new cabin, lying on the framework of its floor. Behind it, the crane: a pole hung from a tree, supported by and supporting tackles to allow heavy weights to be lifted and moved.

In the background, my own house.

The right: - Tells working people it's all the fault of people on benefits. - Tells people on benefits that it's all the fault of immigrants. - Tells immigrants they don't belong here. The one group that never get any blame? The rich.

One thing to remember if you're trying to understand Trump's continual love of Putin. Putin is an enemy of the west. He's an enemy of democracy. He's an enemy of the rights of ordinary people. But he's not an enemy of the rich.

@khleedril to be fair,, he was working on the optimisation of finding larger primes.

So I used instead Luke Meyers implementation; however it too has an interesting (to me) foible. His function `(generate-primes-till n)` actually generates primes up to but not including `n`, so `(count (generate-primes-till 71))` yields 19 rather than 20, which was too me an unexpected result […]

While checking this, I learned that `sieve-sm` in Gary Verhaegen's otherwise excellent blog post on implementing the Sieve of Eratosthenes in #Clojure is wrong, because it doesn't recognise 2 as prime. The reason it doesn't is because he generates his unbounded range using `(iterate inc 2)`. My […]

More and more and more half lap joints. Not very creative, but the joints have to be made.
90° half lap joint for the apex of the roof, although it's currently sitting on the top of a pillar as that was the convenient place to do it. The joint is complete and assembled but not drilled or bolted. The chisel with which it was mostly cut lies across it.The two halves of a 45° half lap joint where a ceiling joist joins a rafter, mostly cut but not yet tidied up. It too lies on a pillar head. The tools with which I've been working lie around.

This is specifically why "just try it, just use it, give it a go, just take a hit" is a plea for you to experience the rush of acquisition and achievement without doing any of the work required to *actually* achieve something They want you to be as dazzled as they are, rather than assess quality

I think it's important to interact with AI in a very carefully controlled way: specifically to understand exactly how toxic and terrible it is I only get it to return text in two conditions: (a) a topic I know well and (b) a question I **already answered**. You learn v quick how bad the answers are

Does Generative AI “Work”? That’s a Misleading Question.
Generative AI works a lot like fossil fuels “work”—narrowly, intermittently, and with a lot of nasty side effects.
