TV and film were fine but my grandparents had a painting done by a my aunt who'd taken sunday school to heart. A scene from hell, fiery mountains and a vally with burning people and demons running through it. Hung in the spare room lit up by passing headlights coming through a gap in the curtains.

Just checked on Google maps. It's been nearly 50 years since that painting terrified me, and that gap in the curtains is still there .

Years ago I invented a new file format for some specialized human editable data and built an editor plugin for it. Today I added a new button "simplify" that takes the piles of garbage people have been typing into these files and rewrites it into a clean canonical form. Never been more satisfied.

Picked up the bass again a few months ago after 20 years of not playing and this weekend I thought I'd try and learn slap bass ftft. Delighted to say that after only four or five hours practice I can now play a god-awful rendition of Give It Away. Family are being as supportive as you'd expect.

Trying to keep the sulphate content too a minimum, I have tried pasteurizing the cider before settling. This should kill the yeast and drive out the CO2, so that it settles faster and allows back sweetening when it goes into the keg. Anyway. Now we wait. For a week or two.

Once again a non-expert has used AI to change some (of my) code, caused a customer issue (thankfully in UAT), and now I have to clean up the mess. Anyway, just think, this is happening a million times a day across the world right now as inexperienced programmers vibe code their way into quagmires.

I don't really want to get involved, but if you fix supply regardless of demand, of course you get asset pricing not supply / demand pricing. I'm not sure why anybody thinks this is a gotcha about building more houses and house prices. We know that if you dramatically increase supply, rents fall.

Just found out that my daughter's best friend got all 9s in her GCSEs and is doing the same A levels. Whatever the emotion is that is the opposite of what you feel when you find out that your child has fallen in with a bunch of junkies, that is what I am feeling rn.
