Glad to hear Leeds Other Paper's role in covering the local music scene being acknowledged in this audio trail.

Looking forward to following this Alternative Music in Leeds audio trail over the coming days, put together by @silverdraws.bsky.social as part of the @leedscivictrust.bsky.social Heritage Open Days. Apparently I'm on it somewhere, but don't let that put you off...

Btw, the goth lead guitar sounds stunning. Just needs a bit of Doktor Avalanche. Also very happy with the house piano. Not sure they go together all that well.

Up early with my band Motorway City* recording the soundtrack to the Alt Music of Leeds audio trail. *just me really (so far). Motorway City exists to make music for Leeds Nomad projects, because (quite rightly), I can’t use music from other artists, such as those featured in the trail.

Eight audio interviews complete in nine days. First evening off since last Friday. Amazing recorded chats with people involved in Leeds music, telling their stories. Lots of editing to start doing from Monday for 20. Four more interviews in the diary with a few more still to hopefully confirm.

Lots of excellent interviews going on for the Leeds Alt Music audio trail. I mean, actually blown away by them. As with all my trails, it needs a soundtrack (or five, six, seven? One for every music genre?).

Details on this year’s free alt music in Leeds audio trail will come next week. The artwork for the free maps, posters, etc, feature a punk/rave/goth-ed up version of one of our famous Leeds statues. However, she needed more spiky bits. Thought I’d try them on in Whitelock’s.

Someone suggested this might be somewhere near Newcastle. It’s certainly a lot of candles on a cake. I actually gave Alex Sobel a (different) badge last week in the spirit of Leedism.

In other news, I’m getting near to the end of the first run of my first product, the Leeds Goth enamel pin badge. Now a museum piece, only 500 classic badges (left) will ever exist. The new one (right) is smaller (and more elegant) with a raised, polished enamel face. I need to update my shop.

On Monday, I popped in to Northern Guitars for a long overdue official opening of the legendary Joseph’s Well venue sign I rescued in 2024. Huge thanks to Alex Sobel MP for doing the honours, and to Rick, Dave and Danny of Northern Guitars for arranging. I like to think we look like a band.

He’s kern to showcase newer goth bands, so Mouth Ulcers will play a Warehouse set. There’s lots of behind the scenes conversations going on about doing bigger music events to highlight Leeds’ unique place in goth culture.

I know Joel is bringing back Goth City for a ten-year anniversary, but I’m not sure what the plans are down the line. The newly-introduced Darkside nights, starting at the Key Club, and at The Warehouse in October, do very well as a disco. Richard has started to add a band slot, too.

Yes and no, it seems. The description says it will be the final instalment of Carpe Noctum as a regular, ongoing event. So there could potentially be one-offs. Though the phrases “We intend to go out with a bang” and “Don’t come to mourn, but to celebrate” do make it seem pretty final.

Gutted that I can’t wear hi-vis. Never went to U2, Springsteen or Simpleminds. But was there at the Rolling Stones, Madonna, Jacko and even Genesis (who I was not a fan of). Its taking linger to set up and take down. A month of disruption. And the park has been closed off two week prior. Let’s see

As Roundhay Park gets ready for the return of large crowds next weekend, here’s a reminder of U2’s two huge concerts held there in the 90s. The has band played the city eight times, starting with Brannigans in 1980, followed by an appearance at the second Futurama festival at the Queen’s Hall.
