GPC stripped me of my membership in a secret tribunal conducted in a secret group chat, without telling me what I was accused of, and without giving me any chance to defend myself. Then they sent me a link to a suicide hotline. This is indefensible by anybody's standards.

Anyone telling you that this suspension was the result of a measured, objective disciplinary process is lying to you. The entire thing was cooked up only AFTER I was elected, and GPC then held a secret vote based on secret 'evidence' and secret 'charges' I wasn't allowed to see.

Timeline: 19 Aug - Elected 23 Aug - Suspension proposed 27 Aug - Suspended This was not an objective, independent disciplinary process. It was a panicked reaction to media smears. I was not allowed to defend myself or see the 'charges'. They just immediately booted me.

I did not want to take this public! This is not pleasant! I was willing to work behind-the-scenes and get reinstated quietly, without fuss. But the party immediately decided to leak my suspension to the Daily Mail without a reason. So I had to respond. They made this public.

One of the principles of the Green Party is that you should treat members in "good faith" and assume the best of intentions on their part. It's curious how that expectation of "good faith", honesty and good intentions is immediately tossed aside when a trans woman speaks out.

‼️Statement RE my suspension from the Greens. I was suspended for the 'crime' of being a trans woman who ran for a women's place. The "media interest" in my gender was cited as the sole reason for my suspension.

I can confirm that I have indeed been suspended from the Green Party. The only reason given for my immediate suspension is that I allegedly ‘brought the party into disrepute’ by choosing to run for a reserved female space on Green Party Council as a trans woman. In the Greens, suspensions are not a guilty verdict. I was not found guilty of breaking any rules whatsoever. The only actual disciplinary allegations against me are that I allegedly was rude to people on the internet, and that I ‘gossiped’. I was not suspended for any of this.

The only reason given for my IMMEDIATE SUSPENSION was: "EF’s recent election to GPC and the accompanying media interest”. I was suspended just 8 days after being elected, in a secret group chat discussion which included just 13 of the 36 members of GPC. My critics submitted 100 pages of transphobic articles as ‘evidence’, while I was banned from submitting anything in my defence and was not allowed to see the charges. There was no investigation.

Because I have not been found guilty of any disciplinary offences whatsoever, the only ‘appeal’ process for suspension involves asking Green Party Council to reverse their decision. This is something I have to do, so please do not email or harass any Council members. That is not going to help anybody, and I strongly discourage anyone from contacting GPC members individually. I do not want you to do that.

Suspension decisions can be reversed if GPC considers that there are ‘mitigating’ circumstances. This can include representations from other party members, submitted as part of the official process.

I have therefore set up an online form where fellow Green members can submit statements expressing support for me and defending me. Please put your name and local party so it is accepted by GPC.

It is my hope that with enough attention and support, GPC will hold a full meeting with a large turnout of all GPC members (rather than a small minority) that will overturn my suspension swiftly.
