When agencies take interpreting bookings and fail to offer them out, Deaf people miss out and NHS time gets wasted. Signalise works directly with Deaf people and interpreters to make sure appointments actually get covered properly. 🔗 See how we are fixing the system: buff.ly/FmVgAOm #NHSTime

‘Our culture is rich and we need our own space’ There is no dedicated physical hub for the Deaf community, even though 18 million people in the UK are hard of hearing. Urban planner and activist Amanprit Arnold has made it her mission to change this. Read more from The Guardian ➡️ buff.ly/sVuHp3Q

While these massive procurement systems can feel overwhelming, they shouldn't lock out the grassroots organisations that know their local Deaf communities best. Signalise is here to work with local providers, not take them over.

Too often, it's the Deaf patient who pays the price. It looks like arriving at the hospital alone, facing missed appointments, extreme anxiety, and serious risks to their safety. Deaf people deserve better than a system that treats their communication rights as a profit margin.
100
Signalise @signalisecoop.bsky.social · 22/07/2026
What is the problem with the average agency? To win large NHS contracts, many massive corporate agencies offer unsustainably low prices. When profit is prioritised over quality, it forces frontline interpreter rates down and leaves vital bookings unfilled.

Signalise @signalisecoop.bsky.social · 20/07/2026
For us, best practice means matching the right qualified professional to your specific needs, sending a text confirmation for every single booking, and providing daily interpreter visits if you are admitted to hospital. 📖 See why the government recognises our model as best practice: buff.ly/D53YajA

The UK government's recent "Locked Out" report highlights a Liverpool Co-operative (that's us!) as an example of good practice for improving healthcare access for Deaf BSL users.

What does best practice actually look like? Good communication is not a luxury. It is an absolute requirement for safe, accessible healthcare.

Traditional agencies strip out value, but our co-operative model delivers 98.4% to 100% booking fulfillment, complete transparency with text confirmations, and community accountability in BSL. 📖 See why we are recognised as an official example of best practice: buff.ly/D53YajA

Why are we named in the Locked Out Report? Well, when the government's BSL Advisory Board investigated why the healthcare system is failing Deaf people, they named a certain Liverpool Co-operative as the solution.
