My online girlfriend was so shocked by the Ukraine drone strike on the Russian data centre that she's been too upset to message me all day.

I tried again in the late afternoon and it was functioning (whew!) Now just need to get IOG to correctly set up the charger so it doesn’t try to only use solar power in the middle of the night 😀

Hi @octopus.energy , I just updated the app on iOS and am now getting the following error message trying to log in: “You seem to have lost internet connection. Please check and try again” I’ve tried with both WiFi and 5G, and closing/restarting the app. Is anyone else experiencing this?

2/2 We asked Mr Ripling how he makes his “exceedingly good cakes”. How should I know? I’ve got a ruddy great factory to do it for me. We do note however that Mr Ripling makes exceedingly large amounts of money.

1/2 It reminds me of a British Comedy show (The Goodies) I’d watch as a kid, where they’d put fake adverts midway through. One was a spoof of UK’s “Mr Kipling’s Cakes” which went something like…

I’d not heard of that so looked it up and I see one episode involves jelly beans… but the synopsis has left me none the wiser 😆

When I was in about grade 2, I knew how to spell its other name. Today I had to look it up, (ornithorhynchus) but was curious if it too needs a strange pluralisation?

Apologies, only started skimming the paper (well, mainly the references section) but how old is it? It’s just that, IIRC, there have been a few k-DOP papers published in the past few years (eg at HPG).

A rattlesnake in Africa? Reminds me of all the kookaburra calls in Hollywood’s jungle scenes. 😀 (BTW I’m not 100% sure I get the reference… I can only think of a terrible, hand drawn cartoon/comic that was around in the late 70s)

2/2 On the graphics card one serial port fed the monitor while the other was used for video in (eg TV in a window). A Texas Instruments 340xx graphics chip used the random access interface for the usual Windows 2D rendering.

1/2 Another you might like was (IIRC) triple port DRAM. Around 1992 my employer, Videologic, made & sold a 24bit 2D graphics card that used it. Again, IIRC (and this was 30+ years ago so take with a grain of salt) the DRAMs had one standard, random access interface, and two serial interfaces.

I think one issue with Rambus was that, allegedly, (www.eetimes.com/submarine-pa... ) they may used the notorious US “submarining” patent practice, whereby a company kept tweaking an unpublished patent application. Thankfully the USPTO since changed its rules to match the rest of the world.

Minor nitpick: “Floating point keeps the highest B bits and throws the low bits away.” It rounds to produce those upper B bits, but you probably meant that and were just aiming to be succinct, unlike me.
