Nature-based solutions are long-term investments. The benefits of restoring a forest, meadow, or watershed may not be immediately visible. Building climate-resilient landscapes takes sustained effort, continued investment, and a commitment to learning from what works.

A familiar sight in Lassen Volcanic NP, the golden-mantled ground squirrel is a high-elevation mammal found in #forests, rocky areas, & even above the treeline. They forage for seeds, nuts, fungi, plants, and insects, then spend the winter underground in hibernation. #LassenVolcanic #SierraCascade

Changes on the landscape affect what happens downstream. Healthy #forests & #meadows help regulate how #SierraNevada water moves through our watersheds. Protecting & restoring these systems can support water resources while also providing benefits for wildlife, carbon storage, & ecosystem health!

A healthy Sierra-Cascade is essential to California’s future. As Wade Crowfoot shared at the Nature-Based Solutions Summit, the region supports our water, air, safety, and prosperity, and its health depends on all of us working together.

Forests & mountain meadows provide benefits that reach far beyond the landscape itself. They support water resources, wildlife, carbon storage, and community resilience. Nature-based solutions recognize these connections & use natural systems as part of CA’s approach to addressing climate change.

There isn't one organization that can solve the Sierra-Cascade's wildfire & forest health challenges. Tribes, local governments, nonprofits, land managers, watershed groups, fire safe councils, and many others each bring different and unique knowledge and resources to the table.
