Somewhat related, snow petrel vomit provides a sea ice climate record in the Southern Ocean over the past 50,000 or so years — e.g., cp.copernicus.org/articles/18/.... Questions about the stench of very old vomit should be directed to @erinmcclimate.bsky.social 🤢

Summer sea-ice variability on the Antarctic margin during the last glacial period reconstructed from snow petrel (Pagodroma nivea) stomach-oil deposits
Abstract. Antarctic sea ice is a critical component of the climate system affecting a range of physical and biogeochemical feedbacks and supporting unique ecosystems. During the last glacial stage, An...

Well my curiosity about palantir’s ferpa policy led me to a sketchy Connecticut-based LLC’s website that has Palantir Foundry all over its html code (but not its actual website content 🤡). It’s a company selling AI integration for… middle schools. …I’m going to stop thinking about this now 😶‍🌫️

UW is spending $340 million on an IT upgrade. It’s not going well
Months after the launch of the University of Washington’s $340 million IT overhaul, many faculty, staff and others say it's wracked by disruptive bugs and flaws.

Oh boy, you wrote this without intuitively knowing the FERPA nightmare that must be bubbling under the hood??? That is even more remarkable.

When you are sitting there thinking, “but is it really worse than @workday.com?” and the antecedent of “it” is Palantir, well, I guess it’s time to finally subscribe to @foiaball.com 🤷‍♂️ (come for the workday jokes, stay for the FERPA questions)

🌊 A team of researchers, including #URIGSO's @nickpizzooceans.bsky.social, has developed a new AI-powered way to study ocean currents. #GOFLOW uses thermal images from weather satellites already in orbit to map ocean surface currents in unprecedented detail, with no new hardware required. 🧪

I very much believe there are things humans bring to the table. I do not appreciate comms strategies that require playing fast and loose with the history of observation. All science is harmed when trust in science is undermined 😊

Fresh off the preprint server! @maratimes.bsky.social and I show how data from the overlapping SWOT and PACE satellite missions present a step forward in our ability to observe linked biogeochemical-physical processes in the ocean. We look forward to chatting about this with folks at #OSM2026! 🌊

I’m just spitballing here, but what if… we take how much this would cost and instead… create a big pot of money that scientists could propose to… to research Greenland. Think about how many scientists we station there! Maybe even buy some LC-130s to transport them. Maybe even launch some satellites.
