Saw the UK premiere of Ken Russell's The Devils tonight, in 35mm at the BFI. The film is amazing, a fierce condemnation of hypocrisy and authoritarianism, passionately introduced by Mark Kermode. But amazingly, I was sat a few seats away from Dame Vanessa Redgrave. Top tier #lff experience

Questions to which the answer is "what the fuck are you talking about, of course it is" from the Times here
The Times illustrates an article headlined "Is it ever OK to order a half-pint" with a cartoon of a man with a pint on one shoulder and a joyful looking half pint on the other shoulder

Congratulations to Audi on taking minimalism in car design to its natural conclusion: with wheel arches so tight steering is impossible, they've minimised the direction it can travel to just one - full speed ahead!
A silly concept car. Minimalistically designed in milled aluminium, it consists of a sphere for a cabin and tubes holding the wheels so tightly that they couldn't be turned in either direction

I saw him do a Q&A after a screening of Return to Oz at the Prince Charles a few weeks ago. He's a really great anecdotalist, and a very youthful 83!

Caught a 50th anniversary screening of Taxi Driver tonight. It had been a while since I'd last seen it, and I hadn't expected to catch so many parallels to current times: a paranoid loner, with racist tendencies and an attitude of entitlement towards women becomes obsessed with a sexualised pre-teen
A shot from the film Taxi Driver. Robert De Niro's eyes can be seen in close up in the rear view mirror while the road ahead is filled with blurred red and white lights

Enjoying the nostalgia trip of X-Men '97. Even more so in this ep which repeatedly features a background character whose mutant power appears to be "fat jelly bag of bones with googly eyes'
An incidental background character is just a fat, pink, translucent jelly with a skeleton and googly eyes. There's a parakeet sitting on his or her head

Yes, absolutely. Let's all scrap our cars over such a scandalous increase

The worst thing about food court/street food culture is the way it's normalised sitting on stairs to eat. Low status behaviour! You're already paying £17 for a cheeseburger, you deserve to sit on a chair like a real person!
