my brain also went though almost all of these questions the moment i heard they were going to do this. was born to fuck with computers but instead i got an understanding poorly designed systems (tech/otherwise) along with a deep and upsetting understanding of human rights, policies, and oppression

passkeys not on hardware tokens are a nightmare of syncing (or not syncing) along with things like you do a bios update on windows and now your TPM is cleared and you loose your passkeys. i just love seeing helpdesk push out an update then something breaks that makes no sense 🙃

fido2/passkeys are another kind of nightmare but if you have them on a usb device like a yubikey then a lot of the problems go away. passkeys on hardware tokens can replace your username, password, and MFA! this is what i keep pushing for and use everywhere i can

i sorta manage the SSO and MFA platform and policies at work. i have always hated all the apps that use codes or need my phone for MFA. i did like those RSA keychains like 20 years ago. this is too much work things have gotten better for an ideal state but most apps don't do things right yet.

the first computer that was mine was this Acros 325se which my parents gave to me when they had to run windows 95 software. it is grayscale and runs windows 3.11. the first computer i used was some 286 desktop as there are videos from my 4th birthday playing a big bird game

the native gui clients are really bad and its just one or two linux command you need to learn. they are easy to find and to use. i get that it might be kind of a pain at first but it's so much quicker and easier. Same with copying/moving files which i dread in a gui
