#trigun maximum vs 98 vs stampgaze designs (in my head) for legato, midvalley, and milly please appreciate the line art i spent like eight hours making it neat

nine headshots of legato bluesummers, milly thompson, and midvalley the hornfreak from various trigun media. the text says:

max legato: manic wraith nightmare boy
98 legato: "saw a snail today. effervescent."
stamp legato: TEENAGERS SCARE THE LIVING SHIT OUT OF ME
max milly: you can stay silly through any endless horrors with a big enough gun.
98 milly: the peoples’ beloved princess
stargaze milly: problematic skull to cup size ratio
max midvalley:he is not committing to the court jester bit. he intends to betray the bit, actually.
98 valley: fully committed to the court jester bit to compensate for above ^
stargaze valley: he looks like he struggles to open child safety lids...

#trigun i wanted to try drawing my thoughts on the visual differences between each continuity’s set of twins… (trimax -> 98 -> stampgaze) (alt text for more thoughts!)

a page of headshots of Millions Knives and Vash the Stampede from Trigun, with a focus on differentiating their facial features, color palettes, and expressions. Detailed alt text is available in each closeup.

Headshots of Millions Knives and Vash the Stampede from Trigun Maximum. Knives has a tired, resigned expression on his face as he glances down at the viewer, with no light in his eyes and dark circles under his eyes; Vash has a hopeful, if not a conciliatory expression, with his eyebrows drawn together and a smile. Knives’ hair is a pale, platinum blonde, while Vash’s is a brighter gold. Vash’s skin is marginally more tanned than Knives’, though the difference is minimal. Knives’ eyes are an icier true blue, while Vash’s are teal-green leaning. Knives has wrinkles around his mouth, nose, and eyes/brow; Vash has defined smile lines, cheekbones, crow’s feet, and forehead wrinkles. Their nose shapes are quite similar, though Vash’s nose has clearly been broken before and the tip of his nose is more upturned while Knives’ is downturned. They both have thin, droopy eyes with long lashes, but Knives has heavier lids while Vash has a deliberate, brightening up-turn. Knives just looks really tired. hes so tired. there’s nowhere else for him to go.

The text for each says:
Knives: “Craving a coma but he has work tomorrow.”
Vash: “Grown ass man trying his damn best”
Both: “The same face affected by very different life experiences.”

Headshots of Millions Knives and Vash the Stampede from Trigun 1998. Knives’ hair is two-toned middle-parted platinum and lighter while his skin is marginally darker, while Vash’s hair is darker/bright gold and his skin is marginally lighter. Knives does not have their usual mole, Vash does. Both have sharp, triangular eyebrows and long noses, though Vash has bigger nostrils while Knives has a slight curve. Knives’ eyes are thin with long eyelashes, heavy lids, and eyebags/wrinkles. His eyes are a dark blueish-purple. I called them his jeyes (jeans eyes) as I was drawing. Vash’s eyes are large, almond-shaped, and have big fluttery eyelashes like the shoujo ml he is. They’re also teal, though more blue than green. He is making a dreamwork’s face (one raised eyebrow) at Knives and smiling in a way that kind of makes me want to punch him in the face (which means i succeeded at executing my vision). Knives is scowling but kind of smugly at the viewer. Knives had sharp cheekbones and a lot of frown wrinkles from scowling for a hundred and fifty years. Vash has a rounder, friendlier face, a chin dimple, and smile lines from having a singular coping mechanism to rely on for a hundred and fifty years. Knives’ stupid little hair antenna are tiny while Vash’s could be used to sense his surroundings in the dark if he really wanted to.

The text for each says:
Knives: “France’s least photogenic model.”
Vash: “The Broom Beast.”
Both: “Putting the frat in fraternal twins.”

Headshots of Millions Knives/Nai and Vash the Stampede from Trigun Stampede/Trigun Stargaze. They are, as the text says, UNCANNILY identical, which I think is kinda necessary for the whole explanation in the first episodes. Same facial structure, same eyes, same brows, same nose, same lips. Their features are designed to resemble the series’ Dependents, with strong aquiline noses that lead into their brows and big round eyes with long lashes. The only differences between them are their color palettes, the placement of their matching dimples/inverted moles, and Vash’s slightly longer hair. Knives’ palette is cold and washed out, with silver hair, pale skin, and grayish-purple lips. His eyelashes and brows are also a light gray-blonde. His eyes are greenish teal, and he has a dimple at the bottom corner of his downturned mouth. Vash’s palette is warm and saturated, with dark golden hair, a flush to his cheeks, and sky-blue eyes. He has thin sideburns on the sides of his face down to his jaw. He has a dimple by the corner of his upturned mouth. Knives’ eyebrows are angled slightly downwards while Vash’s are raised, making him look unguarded. Look i know people love giving these two specifically a comical degree of sexual dimorphism but i think it’s so silly when they could beat the twins from the shining in a Twin Contest. the lets be clones with mama flavor. the seeing each other in the reflection of their own face. the guilt and responsibility. idk. this took me half an hour to write youd better be reading it and laughing with me or i swear to god ill

The text for each says:
Knives: “Aloe plant that hates you”
Vash: “It represents his determination to do nothing”
Both: “UNCANNILY identical.

a stetson for little brother
haenotic
Summary:
That had never been part of his plan. Leaving Vash, hair blackened and his body and mind flayed by Knives' own hands, in the care of strangers-as Millions Knives himself slunk off into the desert sands to die. His body had started to disintegrate before they even touched down on the sands outside the church, shedding pieces of decaying matter and stardust as he staggered towards his brother's salvation. The energy it had taken to rebuild himself from bones would not last into the night, and Millions Knives did not want Vash to watch as he crumbled in agonizing slow motion.
So, Knives leaves. He slips out the back door while the father and child of Mesa Probe Church tend to an unconscious Vash, on silent, padding feet scattering energy in his wake. An apple tree sprouts from one shallow footprint; against his better judgment, Knives grants the seedling a burst of his own fading power as his cloak slides from his shoulders. It would be put to better use, he thinks, given to something that intended to grow rather than rot.
The child tries to call for Vash when Knives turns his back on the tree.
—And then Millions Knives walks into the dune sea of No Man's Land, and he does not die.

i was so sad about legato’s fate in stargaze 11 that i started sketching this almost immediately. gung ho nap time

a WIP sketch of legato bluesummers, elendira the crimsonnail, millions knives, midvalley the hornfreak, and livio the double-fang/razlo the tri-punisher of death from trigun maximum. the piece isn’t finished but they r all taking a nap. elendira looks so happy to be here. legato has two of knives’ knives pinning back his emo bangs like hairclips. lr and elendira r holding hands and strangling midvalley, who is struggling, despite getting to cuddle no man’s land’s next top 3(4) models. his greed. knives is awake and watching kind of fondly/wryly. he’s definitely making fun of mv in his head. his hand is gently placed on legato’s head instead of. you know. cutting it off for shock value. TRIGUN STARGAZE. even the spine crunching wasn’t that insulting. man.

stgz razzle is the peoples (max lr’s) princess. everything stgz livio does gives max lr an aneurism. #trigun

a drawing page of livio the double fang from trigun stargaze and livio/razlo the tri punisher of death from trigun maximum. razlo is trying to put sunscreen on stargaze livio, because he isn’t wearing a hat, and is finding that the sunscreen is blending in with his downright vampiric complexion. im serious, i color-picked from an episode screenshot. this boy either has albinism or anemia or both. trimax razlo is trying not to laugh at him.
dialogue/writing :
trimax lr: “cmere, Tun, yer gunna get a sunburn out here wearin’ no hat like that.” (‘Tun’ has a doodle of a tardigrade pointing at it, explaining the nickname. dehydrated AND almost impossible to kill!)
arrow pointing at stampgaze livio: “blending in with the sunscreen…”
internal dialogue:
razlo: “NEW FOUNDATION MATCH JUST DROPPED—“
livio: “IF WE LAUGH AT HIM WE GO TO HELL!!!”

closeup of the previous drawing. everyone who has ever been mean to him will start coughing in three days.

hey guys can you watch my fucked up girlthing for a few minutes i gotta go reheat my nachos #trigunstargaze

a rendered redesign of millions knives’ monstrous design from trigun stargaze. he is a faceless, rocky monster with horns patterned like his wing, two eyes on one side of his face, dependent plant feathers/tentacles, and glowing plant cores inside his exposed ribcage. over his face are nai and tesla’s faces split like a mask down the center, plant markings glowing, with the cut of the faces emphasizing their respective moles. he is staring at the viewer with no expression, because he does not have a face beyond eyes to emote with.

im inventing dominiques the world has never conceived of #trigun

a sketch page of a hypothetical dominique the cyclops in trigun stargaze. she’s milly’s “big sister” (who could “find them as long as there’s worms around”) and has white hair, a cowboy outfit, and zazie’s light blue right eye. to the left of the page, milly stands next to her as dominique stares at the viewer with her right eye covered by an eyepatch and a Wam on her shoulder; milly is saying “See, Miss Meryl? I told you my big sister could find us as long as there’s worms around!” and smiling. to the right, dominique’s right eye is uncovered, the same color as zazie’s eye as they smile smugly at the viewer from behind dominique. they are dramatically back-lit, with blue bounce light adding to the unearthly air.

a three-panel doodle of nicholas d. wolfwood and livio the double-fang from trigun stargaze, set right after the events of episode 8. livio is sleeping on wolfwood’s chest like he did when they were kids, and wolfwood, with white hair, is reminiscing thinking “just like before…” in the first panel. In the second panel, wolfwood leans down to press his face into livio’s hair. in the third panel, wolfwood is cringing back and wrinkling his nose, thinking “hairspray.” with clear discontent.
