The judge was scathing about the quality of the equality impact assessments which failed to properly assess risk of harm to vulnerable asylum seekers. This is an really important point as Govt introduces a raft of new policy reforms to the asylum system without publishing impact assessments at all.

The importance of consultation with expert orgs like @freedomfromtorture.bsky.social was at the heart of the litigation. The judge agreed that the Home Office had a duty to consult before introducing fundament changes that would have serious & harmful consequences for vulnerable survivors of torture

The policy changes that provoked the litigation concerned the stripping out of vital & longstanding protections for survivors of torture & trauma from the Home Office Allocation of Accommodation guidance. These changes are now unlawful and will have to be withdrawn.
