I've been saying this for a decade. If we stop buying, they come begging. Bit like monarchies and dictatorships. Our money is funding that which is demeaning us. That's why they need to divide - to rule. Keep everyone arguing about immigrants or posting rubbish that kids scroll through daily... 1/2

I'm afraid this mockery - well-deserved - will unhinge him even more. He's a mass of baseless resentment as it is. His perception is severely skewed. He's saved the world according to his distorted cognition; he could lash out.

Turn spare land into low-cost community allotments. Sell the produce at reduced rates or give it away [the latter is already a thing]. Grow food in backyards, gardens, pots. Turn waste into compost. Feed the earth; feed us.

"Viewers watched The Grand Tour (and Top Gear before it) largely because of Clarkson’s personality" I ***didn't*** watch it - couldn't - because of Clarkson’s personality - and character. I'm 99.99% sure I'm not alone. So there are quite a few newbies in the wings. I hope it zooms.

May all those who suffer prejudice, discrimination, hatred, or harmful intent know that those people are wrong. Therefore, you are protected from its effects in that knowledge. Energy is precious. Creation is joy; destruction agony. So use that energy to create. #JasonArday #GoodLawProject

Tens of thousands pay tribute to Jason Arday at Trafalgar Square vigil
MPs, friends and campaigners gathered to remember former Cambridge professor after his death on Friday Tens of thousands of people gathered in Trafalgar Square in London to remember and pay tribute to Jason Arday, the former Cambridge professor who died on Friday. Stand Up to Racism, which organised the vigil, estimated that 30,000 mourners had gathered in the square to listen to emotional speeches from MPs, friends and campaigners on Arday’s life and legacy and join in a minute’s silence. Many were dressed in black and held flowers, which they were asked to leave beneath Nelson’s column. People also carried placards reading “rest in power”. Continue reading...

I'm sickened by these people sat on the sidelines like old crones hoping to watch someone being guillotined - while gossiping incessantly about what's wrong with everyone but themselves. Why not be constructive for a change instead of paying insiders off to give you something to gossip about?

Happy to share knowledge and data. Bottom line, few bots will run JavaScript and something like Cloudflare Turnstile (free) or Google Recaptcha (free for limited usage) is still effective. Maybe force all non-UK IP requests to pass a test?

They are spinning up vast armies of bots so requests are coming from many different IPs. Sometimes to keep things vaguely manageable whole countries’ IP ranges have to be blocked for a while to keep services available for everybody else but of course individuals in those countries are then affected

This isn't efficacious as a strategy anymore, as the scale has totally exploded and for every million bots blocked, a hundred million spring up in their place. This is happening across the open internet and it feels very much like an arms race

I'm sure that analysis of your server logs, looking at frequency of requests from IP address ranges, and looking them up under ICANN would enable you develop a block list. Not fool proof, but worth a try. Because their behaviour amounts to a DoS attack, maybe not by intent, but same effect

This is happening to university archive catalogues including the one where I work, and I believe it's affected WorldCat too. It's the equivalent of a DDOS and it's been almost relentless for months now.

Human-made materials make up as much as half of UK beaches, study finds
Researchers say sediment changes due to waste dumping and coastal erosion intensified by climate breakdown As much as half of some British beaches’ coarse sediments consist of human-made materials such as brick, concrete, glass and industrial waste, a study has found. Climate breakdown, which has caused more frequent and destructive coastal storms, has led to an increase in these substances on beaches. Six sites on the Firth of Forth, an estuary on Scotland’s east coast joining the River Forth to the North Sea, were surveyed to better understand the makeup of “urban beaches”. Continue reading...

This is my favourite, not least because I believe I may have stood in the same spot as Cezanne, at the Oppidum d'Entremont. I like to think I did, anyhow. “...very near Aix, on the Entremont plateau, some say there was a Salyen city, destroyed by Sextius Calvinus."

I'd disagree - RW is direct, no sideswipes that I picked up on. He gives a balanced viewpoint, praise as well as a remarkably objective assessment of what was lacking, I thought. I was saddened to read it, and full of admiration - and sadness too - for RW and the others. What awful press he endured.

That lady helped me get accepted; the archivist allowed me to examine records which were then closed to the public for another ten years and longer. Only found today she wasn't joking. #ChrisRea has Italian heritage. I say 'has' intentionally. Death doesn't eradicate our ancestry. RIP, and thanks.

1993 - I was applying to research WWII history in the archives of Aix-en-Provence] chatting with the archivist. A lady in the room joined in, saying 'women did not want to go back to the kitchen sink' after the war as they'd done all the men's jobs. Said she was Chris Rea's [Italian] grandmother.
