I was making a snarky comment about our congressman believing absolutely nothing other than what would get him through the next election when I remembered I've heard him say "I believe in God the father"etc from a couple pews away on Sunday mornings and shut up.

Great choice, viola is an awesome instrument, but personally I think it's best to start on violin and switch once you've grown enough to manage one bigger than a full-size violin. Most of those mini-violas sound awful and a lot are just re-strung violins which doesn't help.

At my job we don't get any sick time, so I hold onto my personal days for the same reason. Any unused ones get paid out the first week of Dec so no risk of losing them, and extra cash that time if year is welcome.

Yes! The drinks are the same at the Starbucks inside kroger, but the workers are employed by kroger and union members like the rest of the store's workers. Working retail sucks everywhere, but it sucks less in union shops.

For a while I was a member of a parish where the Sr warden was a classics professor; our rector very wisely avoided EVER attempting greek etymology in sermons. I'm sure Dr Johnson is gracious about it, but yeah that priest has got to be on his toes.

I was just going to say that food safety regs prohibit us from working if we have diarrhea, but this is the USA and we don't have paid sick time. I caught covid 3 times at work, the most recent from someone who knew he was contagious but couldn't afford to lose a single day's pay.

Thank God my retail job is union. Pretty decent insurance at a reasonable price. Getting full-time status is a challenge, but thanks to our union contract it's hard to lose it once you've got it.

I don't think it's off entirely, but parts of the building have been getting up into the upper 80s some nights. Same thing in reverse in the winter too, when I was working overnight stocking I was in long johns, wool socks, multiple sweatshirts, and a warm hat on cold nights. It doesn't make sense.

I work in an air conditioned store, but they turn it off overnight so when I work the baking shift it's HOT!! The oven on and no ac for the first hour is miserable. Thankfully it's only an hour for me, then it gets better. And I can step into the walk-in freezer for a minute when I need to.

Had an unusual experience at the gym this morning-- both the people in the women's locker room when I arrived were more masc presenting than me. That's a first! But I expect some bigots would be wanting all 3 of us to prove we were in the right locker room none the less.

How can they not have heard anything? The company is reaching out to workers on all sorts of modalities-- I've had multiple emails plus pop-ups on various work apps, and there's a sign by the time clock. And I don't even work in produce!

So if a senator from KY is too incapacitated to write and sign a resignation letter (and highly unlikely to ever be able to return to work), is there any mechanism to remove him without his consent? If someone, his wife perhaps, has power of attorney for him, could she do it on his behalf?

Amen to that! For a while I was a member of a small church (ASA 25-30) where every Sunday there were 2 people in the pews who had 4+ years of classical Greek each; word was out to supply priests to be careful with attempting any etymology.

Some older women are FAST!! for a few years in my early 40s, my goal in every race was to be faster than one particular woman in her early 70s who absolutely dominated. I never did-- but I did place in my own age group while being slower than her!
