This spider always looks dead. But it’s been hanging around most of the summer on its straight-line web (never seen a web like that before). It disappeared this morning and is back again. Gives me the creeps. At least it’s outside! 🕷️

I feel like we’re in wild and windy times, not knowing where the waves will take us under deceptive blue skies. Where are our lifesaving equipment? #Photography #Toronto
Blue sky with wispy clouds. Stone in diagonal pattern leading to boardwalk. On the left stone ledge for seating. On the right a metal fence and red lifesaving ladder with equipment. Toronto islands in the distance. Choppy waves in the harbour.

I should’ve included the sign. 🙊 That’s the Harbour Castle Westin (or whatever it’s called now) hotel in the background. A condo is just visible on the left. Imagine living right on the waterfront like that!

We also have lake freighters that bring in the sugar right next to Sugar Beach (can’t imagine where it got its name from 😏) where people lounge next to a broadcast centre. It’s west of the previous video. It’s really nice sitting there, having coffee, watching the sailboats.

🫣😆 I have to say I felt revitalized by a windy 17C down at the waterfront yesterday. The tourists were out in full force. 😲

Walking didn’t help my mood and feeling burdened by this endless chain of shit. So I baked. Brown butter cocoa beer chocolate chip cookies with pecans. And cocoa beer bread with pecans on top. The cookies are good. Waiting for bread to cool. Feeling much better even before munching on them!
Chocolate chip cookies snuggled up on a wire rack. Golden brown with lots of chips!Top view of pecan crusted cocoa beer bread. I used non-alcoholic beer. Bread in loaf shape in parchment paper nest. Bread is cocoa brown.

Same here. That’s a calming view. Seems like we’re both experiencing the same gorgeous blue skies.

Looks like the hail that blasted us didn’t affect my solar panels. Canadian Solar manufacture highly regarded panels that can withstand sandstorms and hail. Glad to see I don’t have to worry about hail, only squirrels. Sigh. #ClimateAction #solar

A friend sent me the NYT Cooking recipe for one-bowl Pound Cake, which uses cornmeal and yoghurt. Didn’t have either. Commenters suggested almond meal and chopped orange. Oooohhh. Made it. Soooo good. Crunchy crust, airy crumb, hits of orange and almond.

Anyone else notice Environment Canada, IQAir, weather meteorologists are underestimating #Wildfire smoke forecast. Third day in a row if memory serves! Apple weather shows Toronto at 20, sunny, severe weather alert, 11 very high health risk.

Orange Warning - Air Quality
Severity: Severe
Significant threat to life or property
Weather Event Onset
5:22 AM (EDT), July 16
Description
Smoke from wildfires in northwestern Ontario is causing very poor air quality and reduced visibility. Conditions may improve Friday morning.

###

During heavy smoke conditions, everyone’s health is at risk regardless of their age or health status.

Limit time outdoors. Reschedule or cancel outdoor sports, activities and events.

You may experience mild and common symptoms such as eye, nose and throat irritation, headaches or a mild cough. More serious but less common symptoms include wheezing, chest pains or severe cough. If you think you are having a medical emergency, seek immediate medical assistance.

People more likely to be impacted by wildfire smoke, including people aged 65 and older, pregnant people, infants and young children, people with an existing illness or chronic health condition, and people who work outdoors, should avoid strenuous activities outdoors and seek medical attention if experiencing symptoms.

https://www.airqualityontario.com/ or contact the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks at 416-314-6666.

Visit http://www.airhealth.ca.

keep windows and doors closed. When there is an extreme heat event occurring with poor air quality, prioritize keeping cool.

Protect your indoor air from wildfire smoke. Actions can include using the highest quality air filter that your ventilation system can handle and/or a certified portable air cleaner that can filter fine particles.

If you must spend time outdoors, limit the time as much as possible. A well-constructed, well-fitting and properly worn respirator type mask (such as a NIOSH-certified N95 or equivalent respirator) can reduce your exposure to the fine particles in the smoke. Even though exposure may be reduced, there can still be risks to health.

It’s gotten dark inside from all the #wildfire smoke obscuring the sun. My iPhone can’t capture the shade of yellow the sky and everything is. It’s like a solar eclipse except instead of shadow-black, it’s sepia-yellow. I don’t recall it being this dark before. Glad Carney is upping our emissions /s

Despite my heat pump continuously cooling my place on the hottest day of the year, with Humidex in mid-40s and me consuming electricity for shower and laser therapy, my solar panels STILL sent more solar power to the grid than I consumed from the grid. That’s energy superpower! #ClimateAction

Wildfire smoky Toronto air. It’s getting darker, yellower as morning progresses. My iPhone doesn’t really pick up the beige-yellow colour. Happy Canada Day!!!🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦 Stay cool, stay hydrated, stay in AC indoors. Not the normal thoughts I have on a day for picnics, swims, and beach time. But the heatwave and air quality is a climate change stain on the festivities best to be wary of, this day and always. #HappyCanadaDay

Not a peep about this orange (!) alert on the weather forecast. Yet while forecast showed Humidex into mid-40s, starting tomorrow, the alert from Environment Canada said nada about that. Humidex plus 20+ at night is the real heat slayer. Are heatwaves becoming the norm? #ClimateCrisis #cdnpoli

Orange Warning - Heat
く
Description
A long duration heat event begins
Tuesday.
What: Maximum temperatures of 31 to 34 degrees Celsius, and potentially up to
37 degrees Celsius for some areas.
Minimum temperatures of 21 to 25 degrees Celsius.
When: Tuesday through Friday, and possibly into the weekend.
Additional Information: The hottest days are expected to be Wednesday and Thursday, with maximum temperatures of 34 to 37 degrees Celsius expected.
Minimum temperatures of 21 to 25 degrees Celsius will provide little relief from the heat.
Hot and humid air can also bring deteriorating air quality and can result in the Air Quality Health Index approaching the high-risk category.

This scene in the trailer had me laughing so much, I had to watch C-movie per aspera ad astra on Netflix. Gotta watch it in Mandarin with subtitles because the English dubbing doesn’t capture the fullness of the acting. It’s not as funny sans Dylan Wang’s vocal inflections. Loved the homages incl ST

Great review! Impressive how long it’s lasted. 👍 I put the Alt-Txt in. #anxiety #trauma #BrainInjury
Google Review from P. B., Jun 2026
"I purchased a DAVID Delight Plus AVE device in 2011. I use the device regularly and it still works. I recently contacted Mind Alive Inc. because I thought I might need a repair.
Instead, Carol took time to trouble shoot with me several mornings and found the problem. I need no repair. Her customer service was outstanding.
I reflected on all the years I worked as a Social Worker or therapist and on clients who accessed AVE. I recall clients who expressed much satisfaction with use of the AVE device for calming, alertness, sleep, etc.
I recall one mother, while sitting with me outside a courtroom, who said 'there should be an AVE on the wall' for these children. She was referring to juvenile delinquent children suffering from trauma, anxiety, depression, etc. For me, I preferred using natural interventions for children rather than using a chemical prescription. I hope more people become familiar with Mind Alive Inc. and use these devices on a regular basis for self-regulation."

At last! For the first time in 2026, I have more net solar credits than I consumed hydro. Colder cloudier winter and a long, thick snow blanket delayed this by about a month. But it helped that this May my solar panels generated more power than in 2025. 🙌 Free energy #ftw! #ClimateAction 🇨🇦
