No lie, it's incredibly well-written. Just ... Well, let's say it hits me right at my sore point. "I must save everyone." The very thought of going to an alternate Earth, and seeing my loved ones, and knowing for a fact they're doomed and I can't do anything for them? Yeah. I can't handle that.

This hit really hard, because chemo wasn't working, it was all in her spine, IIRC, and she basically was in hospice for three weeks before she passed. :( So, the idea of there being a way to possibly have cured her being discovered a month later ... yeah. Still, it's excellent news.

If things were more even, we'd be more inclined to just grit our teeth and bear it, but when it's a repeated trend, without there being quests / missions that are female-coded, it starts getting under our skin.

And honestly, there's nothing stopping the game master from using their own nation's special forces for the game. It really doesn't hinge on 'you MUST be Canadian!', we just decided to use our own country as the focal point.

We're Canadian. So, Canadian special forces. If we were from the UK? We'd have used their special forces. If we were German? We'd use theirs. Japan? Same deal. The point is, we believe a focus on other countries is important in entertainment, and we decided to use our own.

Star Trek did this all the time. They touched on the arts that we're familiar with, or mention people we know, but never, ever brought up stuff from after our time. A show set in 23XX? Nada between 2025-23XX. Nothing at all happened. Everyone must've been bored. So invented spaceflight to escape.

Something that annoys me with 'future' science fiction. From the present to whatever year that future is set in, there is no art, no music, no *culture*. Sure, they'll reference Shakespeare, or Gilbert and Sullivan, or Sherlock Holmes, or what-have-you. But, a book from 2236? Never happened.

#atla #ttrpg Let's say you ran Avatar the Last Airbender (either using the actual rules, or d20, or whatever). PC is Aang, fighting Ozai. Tries to take Ozai's bending. If the PC fails the role, he's consumed instead. This is the final scene. Would you allow Aang to fail because of a bad die roll?

And what if someone's wearing AR goggles, for instance? What about someone with implanted cameras (which exist, we'll note). Of course, this also brings up the issue about someone confronting someone with a recording device -- legally, you can't do anything about it. And if you try, that's assault.
