If only the leadership had put out a radical alternative that promised real change and not performance. Like, we vow to join the war crimes petition in the Hague, sat any UK citizen who has served in the IDF will be handed over if requested. Up sanctions, do something useful don't sabotage the cause

Well I wasn't at conference so don't know the details but I 100% agree with your analysis. Passing that motion was a disaster that gives ammunition to Isreal apologists to deflect from the genocide onto anti semetism allegations. Wow who could have that coming? That's new (not)

Worth adding while Reform UK has started a lot of the hate it has been amplified by the Tories and shamefully Labour.

Wes Streeting resigns as Health Secretary and a deal is reached soon after. It is almost like he was the problem.

If Steve Reed isn't plotting to destroy Burnhm it is a sign there is no point in a Burnham premiership as it'll just be Keir 2.

Especially at the moment, it's not just fast cars, but noisy ones which are causing a real nuisance. When people have to sleep with windows open to cope with the heat, more needs to be done to get them off the roads so people can live peacefully: www.change.org/p/require-ac...

And losing that one councillor means Labour drop from being the 3rd biggest party on the council to the 4th. I wonder if they'll suspend the other one mentioned in the article.

I now think Starmer just scraping through and seeing it as such a triumph he can carry on and on would be lousy for the country but a gift for the Greens.

It is so stupid if you had only read about them for the last 48 hours it would be understandable if you thought Streeting was the half way decent leftie and Burnham was the right wing biggot.

Labour Together are such a vicous lot (I am half way through Paul Holden's The Fraud) and I can see just sabotaging the Burnham campaign out os spite makes sense to them.

Shian @shian22.bsky.social · 20/05/2026
I don't really go for conspiracy theories but Burnham loosing the by-election is the only (very small) chance Streeting has of winning or Starmer staying. And the Labour Together lot are just so horrible.

I had the same doubts as you. Like when I was in the Labour Party in 2015 leadership election I started off thinking I preferred Corbyn policies but Burnham was soft left and had a better chance of being PM. As campaign went on I couldn't face voting Burnham. Not as bad as Starmer is too low a bar

Shian @shian22.bsky.social · 15/05/2026
Yes, I was confident about Gorton & Denton, but this one seems so much harder for us. Though you are 100% right about Labour expecting us to stand down. Ideally a deal so if we stand down in the by election Labour stands down in the mayor election IF they win. If they don't win Labour is dead.

Shian @shian22.bsky.social · 15/05/2026
Morally agree 100%. But nsasty politics worries me that just suppose the Greens are a poor third, and Reform beat Burnham by half of our vote. Then Labour can plaster vote Green get Reform on every election leaflet and that might work. Bastards that they are.

Just suggesting you like to fact check yourself on the Polanski council tax thing .... even Dan Neidle who started the smeer now accepts that of many 100s only one boat owner in the marina paid because they thought it was covered in their mooring fee and the council assumed the same.

Shian @shian22.bsky.social · 15/05/2026
Me too, back at that leader election my heart was with Corbyn but I expected him to be killed by the media so a softer left option like Burnham seemed a safer bet. His campaign was so awful I ended up backing Corbyn. Don't regret it now, despite a few issues.

Shian @shian22.bsky.social · 15/05/2026
True, which in away right now (might change my mind by midnight) I think it might be better to not stand, then if Burnham loses we go 'Labour is dead' if he wins we fight the mayorail campiagn saying. look we are the good guys. Seriously don't know ... if only we had a time machine

Shian @shian22.bsky.social · 15/05/2026
From a political reality POV the nightmare scenario is Greens are a poor third but Reform beat Burnham who looses by less than the Green vote. Then Labour can say again and again, vote Green get Reform.

To be honest, I think Starmer is the one gifting power to Reform. He apes their views on race and immigration (sometimes) rather than challenging them, gets liberal pensioner protesters arrested but allows the far right to march on.

Sarah, I don't know if you have time to read all your the replies, but if you do I would like you to know if there were more Labour MPs like you I wouldn't have left the party, from a Labour party member from to the 1970's - 2023. Maybe best to defect to the Greens like me.

I missed the competition but to add a joke I remember from an A level politics text in the 1970s. In the 1917 revolution every army regiment turned against the Tsar except the Royal Bicycle Regiment. They obviously had more to lose than their chains. Over 50 years later and it still makes me grin

It is easy to be frustrated that the Greens aren’t really fighting your area. The thing is the party took sensible decisions on winnable target seats and committed to try and win them over 2 years ago based the on reality at the time. Hopefully next time we will be able to fight everywhere.
