I know someone who resisted getting a cell phone until a few years ago, when she was pretty much forced to in order to remain in contact with her doctor's office & have virtual visits (which she didn't want, but COVID, it was the only appt they would offer).

Because of PCOS issues I missed at least 2-3 days every month, yet remained an A-B student in AP classes. The principal still threatened my parents with legal action & to hold me back. Schools shouldn't be training for future abuse from employers & neither should entry level jobs that target teens.
