She lives in our camera rolls, albums, and memories now, but I'll never forget the way she became a part of our lives. The endless nights she spent snoring (loudly!) in her hammock while we gamed, the morning visits, diving through tunnels, being annual feature on Christmas cards, all of it.

One night, about 2 months before her health started deteriorating, I was walking through the living room and saw her ready and waiting to play. She would let you know by sort of sitting at the ready, tail waving, energy up, and she would come swat at your ankles.

So I sat down and I played with her for a while, just relaxing and enjoying her company as she dove through her tunnel and chased after some string. It was something I had done so, so many times, a little welcome distraction from whatever I was doing that was so important, and I never really thought about how precious this time really was.

Well I had just bought a new lens for my fancy camera and thought why not, this is the perfect opportunity, lets remember the moment! And she put on some of her best pose work, just a gorgeous, beautiful, lively kitten until the very end.

We adopted her as a nearly 5 year old, picked up off the street while pregnant. My spouse lost her previous cat a year before, I was determined to help her love again. I picked Sweets up off of a tree at the shelter. She didn't protest, I said she passed the "melon test" like a ripe cantaloupe.

Sweet's narrative card from the shelter we adopted her from, it was hanging on her cage. It reads:

My favorite Sweets-ism is how, during the pandemic, she quickly discovered that I would reliably be at my desk every morning around 8:30am. She would sit perfectly statuesque to the left of my keyboard, waiting for me to settle in so she could crawl on my lap for belly massages and head scratches.

There wasn't a Sweet dream last night, and so the dreary day hangs a little heavier this year. All I can do is try not to lose the memories. Never forget this tender creature and her quirks, the gentle trust we shared, and the reliable light she shined on our world.

She would snore, very loudly, a little rhythmic honking noise when she really slipped into sandland. We had to stuff the pillow under it because the hammock alone wasn't really good enough support for her. This sort of just passive, trusting, loving companionship is precious.

I don't really believe in the otherworldly, but on this day, every year since she passed, I've always had some sort of experience that reminds me of my friend. It at least tells me she's still with me in the experiences we shared. Last year I had a dream so real I can still feel it, remember it.

i open FF14, spend half an hour dressing my catgirl, i close the game you can use level 50 crafter artifact gear on any job now, it's some of the most unique gear in the game and really offers some creative opportunities. here I used the smithing boots.

yeah I wish I had the katamari IP too, there's a reason they keep re-releasing it he's been on this trek for over 20 years mostly now saying the same things, ironically he originally left the company because all they wanted to do was make safe sequels he's 100% right of course in both cases

I love the new customizable model I'm using (linked in reply, check it out!) but the tie options weren't doing it for this office lady. ...so I cracked open Live2D Cubism and made a rudimentary physics-enabled tie. Always fun when one creative endeavor pushes another. Still working on colors!

What's funny to me is how all of these early ones were listed as "Complimentary" because they were just CD keys I plugged into a shitty little army green window that I had to keep open to play Counter Strike: Condition Zero. ThreadSpace was really fun for that one weekend.
