More new rules when I am CEO: Bonuses aren’t tied to PRs or lines/features shipped, but your ability to improve your skills and apply them to the process of making the thing, and improvements to the thing you made itself, and your ability to pass on those skills to others.

“Have you used AI?” Is a completely no-win impossible interview question if you don’t see any benefit in using ‘AI’. The only way to get past it is to lie, which seems ridiculous. #llms #softwaredevelopment #interview

All forms of publishing risk the possibility of spreading intolerance. Physical and broadcast publishing has an inherent cost, with gatekeeping and a regulatory legal framework. Social media, however, removes the barrier of cost and regulation to publishing, and the gatekeepers are […]

Pope Innocent III,who died in 1216, spoke of a certain kind of older man, who is "easily provoked", "will believe anything and question nothing", is "stingy and greedy" and "praises the good old days and hates the present." Reform UK's voter base has been knocking around for a very long time.

Lots of talk of growth ahead of the Budget, as if it were a baroque puzzle. Our problem is basic. It's that we no longer support the things which facilitate growth: Europe, immigration, higher education, tax simplification, policy stability. These are all choices and could stop making them anytime.

You have to choose. You can't be nice to everyone. Appeasing corporations and billionaires means abandoning everyone else. When it comes to policy, it's us or them. And for far too long political leaders in this country have sided with them. If Burnham is to survive, this is what he needs to change.

Non-lunatic media coverage of Reform policy announcements has become routine by this point: one par explaining policy, then a par explaining why it is ineffective/counter-productive/unrelated to the problem it is intended to solve, then a quote from a Reform spokesman about a conspiracy of lizards.

The depressing thing about the US isn't Trump really. He's just a grotesque. It's the complete failure of all the things liberals believe in: Congress, the judiciary, the press, voters themselves, all persistently unwilling or unable to stop him. It's the failure of an entire society.
