If a country halted co-operation with the international community on sharing counter-terrorism intelligence, while simultaneously reducing its own capabilities in domestic counter-terrorism, this would patently be a national security risk. The same is true of biological security.

That is really the smell of the cooking fat (so if you cook in butter it will smell more enticing than, say, some sunflower type oil). But fatty smells linger. Like garam masala and onion etc. :-|

Those are the two classic smells realtors in western countries recommend when advising the sale of the house. So when viewers come in, they smell bread and or coffee and it feels like "home".

I like mutton stew/ curry but for my money, "freshly ground coffee, brewing" is the aroma to beat them all.

As the universality of the force of love goes, got to admit "lo jhuk gaya aasmaan bhi" is a lot more evocative and poetic than "who makes me tremble with wonderful rapture".

And like much else Hollywood and media portrayals amplified it. Tequila owes a lot of its success of course to association with rappers too.

It's #MementoMoriMonday! Here's a silver watch in the form of a human skull, c. 1660. The watch is inscribed with: vita fugitur (life is fleeting), aesterna respice (look down upon a fallen thing), caduca despice (look upon eternity), incertita hora (death/hour is uncertain)
A silver skull with engravings on the top. The top of the skull is open to reveal a clock inside.

I read two essays on how AR devices will reshape user interfaces. Both argue traditional PC and smartphone UIs need rethinking, with generative AI playing a key role. I believe Voice-based UIs combined with device’s ability to “see” what you see could be as game-changing as GPS was for the iPhone.

I believe this inspired the original logo for IIM Ahmedabad. In the "modernisation" drive that seems underway it has been replaced by something .. how do we say politely, ugly. But hey "modernity" so why worry about Sidi Saiyyed or even Louis Kahn.

I'm really not one to moan about the patriarchy, but a male journalist friend has now been paid $1/word TWICE to write about a family recipe I made for him, by outlets that used to pay *me* to write for them.... 🙄 #hirewomen

That's why diaries/ personal logs with multiple sources of information & data are so vital. In lockdown, NYT (!) urged people to become archivists & diary keepers. Ironic they themselves push so much rubbish. But several folks I know kept "plague journals". Who knows they will have value one day.

Regulators want information as EC President joins BlueSky. That the FT is providing context with the headline they are using is fascinating in itself.
The picture is a screenshot from the Financial Times and the headline says EU says Bluesky breaching rules on disclosure of information; the news goes on to say platforms operating in the EU must disclose their EU based user numbers as well as where the platforms are legally established. At the bottom of the image is another image of a news headline - Meta loses ground to BlueSky as users abandon Elon Musk's X.
