in #fallenlondon I got the ratwork mechanical dancing shoes that use Red Science to make it "ankle-sprainingly impossible to move off-beat" and I just like thinking about Samuel's shoes giving him no choice but to keep up if his dance partner starts getting fancy.... [no FL spoilers please!]

I think there's something to be said for the way that you seem to be genuinely seeking truth rather than Aligning Yourself With Group. When you DO have a strong opinion, it's backed by years of info-seeking. Otherwise you're often seeking perspectives? Its an attitude I hugely admire

I first watched Labyrinth when I was way too young to absorb Labyrinth and bizarrely the main things I retained before watching it again as an older child were: - Sir Didymus - the junk lady scene. apparently this was the scariest thing to tiny me in the entirety of labyrinth

Recent #fallenlondon event had a surprise twist where A FLEET OF SHIPS OVERTAKEN BY EYE-STEALING SPIDERS amalgamated to pilot them has been awakened to menace London's waters. Samuel did in fact lose his missing eye to eye-stealing spiders so HES UH. DOING GREAT!!!!

A three panel comic, fanart of Fallen London. The first panel is shows a small steam ship belonging to my Fallen London character, Samuel, approaching the shadows of two large wrecks. The shipwrecks are wrapped in spiderwebs with small spiders scuttling all over, and large spider-council amalgamations of many spiders fused together are spilling over the decks. The second panel shows two of the crew on Samuel's ship, one yelling "Spiders! They take your mind, I heard, if-" as Samuel steps out on deck and stares out at the wrecks. The final panel has an offscreen sailor ask "...Captain?" as Samuel continues to only stare in horror, one hand reaching towards the eyepatch over his missing eye. Behind him, in more vibrant colours, is the memory of spiders pouring into the water and stealing his eye, a symbolic streak of blood running past his face.

Delightful option in #fallenlondon to hire a sliver of your own reflection, an incomplete version that does not speak and is implied to have failed at your ambition. I got attached and started thinking too much about Sam's........ [no unrelated spoilers please! im still playing through the game]

(I think the overall issue is nuanced; fandom gives ppl a way to interact with media second-hand without ever consuming the source material, and their enjoyment is legitimate, but at the same time, enjoying the fandom and enjoying the thing itself are not equivalent experiences!)

I knew every detail of lore and story from my research, but actual gameplay I only knew vaguely second-hand. Weird position to be in, and I often disclaimed that I hadn't played it when opining on the game itself, but... given the depth of my obsession, nobody can realistically say I wasn't a fan!

I am not personally an expert in every belief I hold.
