There are a few opensource attempts at building osint alternatives to palantir, but for the most part they are just cool looking ai-slop gimmicks. Palantir gets its power from massive privacy invasion. You can't have one without the other, so there probably can be no "good" palantir.

I'd be really curious to see how this affects certain Australian far right accounts.

3/ What if that entropy is also in the form of just gibberish. "noise". The AI slop , and the signal noise it introduces to the medium of information transfer, Culture, well it reduces the capacity of culture for information, truth. The price for AI is a stupider culture.

2/ And thats amazing. Like yes, Claude Shannon made clear the relationship of intelligence and entropy. And thus there must be a relationsip of language (and thus culture) and entropy. And so "work" on that information, thinking for instance, must produce entropy. Some of that is heat etc. But ...

1/ On the Star Talk podcast, comedian Chuck Nice is definitely the MPV. On the "Why we havent reached super intelligence", the guest David Krakauer discusses entropy and AI, and Chuck sort of makes the throwaway observation "like entropy in the culture?, AI slop". Krakauer seems blown away by that.

There is really no way to kill a person without massively increasing the amount of misery in society. There is no evidence it provides a deterrent effect (most murders are crimes of passion or sociopaths) , but it profoundly traumatizes many innocents and always generates horror.

(..cont) the victim was essentially told they where pardoned and free to go home, and then as they walked out where shot in the brain from behind. Of course THAT system had its own terrors. And after an execution, there is still the trauma of the family of the executed. They, btw, are innocent.

AnActualWizardIRL @shayneo.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Yeah. I'd argue that a "humane" execution is physically impossible, because the real torture is the waiting to die. Geoffrey Robinson in one of his books (I *think* it was "Crimes against humanity" but its been a while) argued the closest we have to "humane" was the old soviet system, where (cont..)

#Steam locking out 3/4 of australians from half their content over a dummy spit with the australian government over age verification really does serve as a stark reminders that as fond as we might be of certain companies, monopolies are always bad things.

"Whats the matter with Kansas" is pretty essential reading IMHO. Another one, like the old "The paranoid streak in american politics" that still feels like vital reading despite their ancient lineage and relationships to administrations long gone.

This is where I prefer the contempt system we have in commonwealth countries. The judge can just hold you in prison until you comply and there is NO appeal (because its not a criminal charge) [although higher courts can intervene if they think theres an injustice].
040
AnActualWizardIRL @shayneo.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
Thats where a contempt charge kicks in. Those have *consequences* that can bypass institutional armor and end up in "Hey, you where following orders. But tonight, those orders will be coming from a prison guard". Judges do NOT like disobedience, and Judges can ruin your world.

My uncle loved cigars. When I started at that school 15 years later the headmaster pulled me aside and went "your one of the goddamn oneill boys arent you? Your not dannys son?". "Nope". "Oh thank god. he was a little terrorist. Him and his damn cigars".
000
AnActualWizardIRL @shayneo.bsky.social · 10/09/2026
I had to laugh at the "I'd light up a cigarette so I'd get saturday detention". My uncle in the 1960s would every morning go to the headmasters office and light up a cigarette, so he would get "punished". The punishment then for smoking was being "forced" to deep inhale a whole cigar.

Hmm. Whatever we call it. I do worry about the stories of these things going off the rails. I've seen alarming shit at work with this stuff. Not like its.... malicious... its just software.. but it can take unexpected paths to solve the problems its given that have unintended side effects.

Even sociopaths. Prison interviews with sociopathic murderers show they'll often have nightmares about their acts, even as they fail to identify the evilness of it. The misunderstood thing with sociopaths is that they dont have empathy. They do, they just process it differently.

People are not built for killing humans. Even the most gung-ho oorah soldier will have nightmares for life after killing an opponent in a firefight, even if he had a justified reason for the killing (Ie the opponent was shooting him). I've lost count how many veterans I've met with PTSD

Oh and do that while exited out of Discord. If you do it while discord is running, weird shit might occur. ONLY nuke the contents of those dirs, leave the other stuff alone.

AnActualWizardIRL @shayneo.bsky.social · 06/09/2026
No. However you might be able to rectify that by cleaning out the case. Discord is an "electron" app. Basically a web page wrapped in a chrome shell. Go to %appdata%\Discord in your windows (or whatever the equivelent is if your on Macos or lunix) and nuke the Cache, Code Cache and GPUCache dirs.

No they aren't. We tried that shit at work, it caused chaos, so we banned it. People can ask questions, but we dont permit code to be generated, because it ends up with low quality slop that the juniors cant explain in a code review.

AnActualWizardIRL @shayneo.bsky.social · 06/09/2026
Almost certainly they can. A vindictive prosecution almost always ends up in the prosecutor paying the defendants costs.

AnActualWizardIRL @shayneo.bsky.social · 06/09/2026
They need to file for discovery. Who decided to do this. Why did they do it. Why where the *almost guaranteed* objections from experienced prosecutors overruled. This wasn't a mistake. This was on purpose. And whoever did this to him has a name.

AnActualWizardIRL @shayneo.bsky.social · 31/08/2026
It must be so demoralizing working at a big AAA or AA game studio, and you've built this beautiful groundbreaking game, and then the C Suite turns up and says "Ok, strip that cool aesthetic out, and put in a bunch of glittery gooner skins that we're gonna sell as DLC"

AnActualWizardIRL @shayneo.bsky.social · 17/08/2026
Well that too, my point is , making it part of the *culture*, in the same way that it is in the Movie Industry. Much of which, is due to the SAG-AFTRA and predecessors, but much is also due to movie goers wanting to see who made the film and a film culture where crediting is just how its done.

Gaming really needs its own version of IMDB. It'd be an everyone wins scenario. Gamers get a bit of juice to dig into to find out about their favorite games and who made them. Employers would have a great source for tracking down talent, and devs would have an amazing way to get credited.

Divinity Original sin. Its *weird* because Baldurs Gate set my world on fire for a number of months, and by all accounts DOS was just as good. I'm sure it is, but I just struggled to get into it and got distracted by other games. One day I'll give it another go, but first round was a fizzer for me.

This is one of the gravediggers of capitalism foretold by Karl Marx, its fundamentally a contradiction in capitalism. Capitalism WILL die. What comes next however is up to us. And fascists are on the march seeking to claim that future for themselves. The downturn is over, the time to act is now.

AnActualWizardIRL @shayneo.bsky.social · 13/08/2026
AI will implode the economy if capitalisms inherent drive to centralize resources towards the few. As the working and middle classes are replaced by bots, we will have massive swathes of humanity unable to get an income. And without an income, no capacity to buy. Which means no selling either.
100
AnActualWizardIRL @shayneo.bsky.social · 13/08/2026
The wrong message to take away from this is that AI is somehow "enslaved". If these things do somehow end up conscious and capable of suffering, well thats a fresh batch of ethical horrors we'll have to deal with then, until then however, the point is, any AI herding job can be done by AI.

AnActualWizardIRL @shayneo.bsky.social · 13/08/2026
Rather what happened is that the rich got poorer, and the poor got nothing. Even the jobs promised supervising the slaves, didnt really pan out, because you could just as easily appoint a boss slave who in exchange for better treatment would control the other slaves. This applies with AI too.
