Even that’s more than most, I’d say — I know enough to say “She was an empress dowager, wasn’t she? And I think originally a concubine?” to one and vaguely recognize a second.
An xkcd comic with two stick figures talking.

Dialogue:

“Silicate chemistry is second nature to us geochemists, so it's easy to forget that the average person probably only knows the formulas for olivine and one or two feldspars.”
“And quartz, of course.”
“Of course.”

Caption:

Even when they're trying to compensate for it, experts in anything wildly overestimate the average person's familiarity with their field.

A sequence of three panels from Erfworld book 1, page 16, featuring protagonist Parson Gotti.

(Panel 1)
Parson, offscreen: “Of course. Okay. Guilty. But… I mean, strategy? Tactics? Logistics... systems... worlds? These are the only things that engage my interest. See if I could, like, *literally* escape into one of these games, I'd do it in a second.”

(Panel 2)
Parson: “Just snap my fingers and teleport in? Absolutely. Bam! Seeya!”

(Panel 3)
Parson is shown in silhouette with his arms flung upward as he is summoned to another world, accompanied by a “PLOT” sound effect.

The duality of the timeline
Retweet of a tweet that reads, “The feminist movement in which she was a leader got the legal system to address domestic violence, workplace sexual harassment and discrimination, and so much more that people don't see because they don't remember the world before those changes.”Retweet of a tweet that reads, “Gloria Steinem, who made anticommunist propaganda for the CIA, sought to achieve power for women primarily in the context of elite access to the levers of Empire, who espoused racist and transphobic beliefs many times, and exemplified much of what is sick and evil about feminism, is dead.”

Math is the study of things that are made out of rules. Those rules form systems. Sometimes, those systems prove to be useful models. Yours, unlike the internally consistent systems that have been tested and refined for centuries, would not. Thanks for the book rec. Here’s one of my own.
Front cover of Gödel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid, by Douglas R. Hofstadter. Very dated in its discussion of AI, but still well worth reading.

I had a lot of thoughts on her arc in the Killing Game Route.
Also, she's not quite like the audience Tsumugi describes in V3, in that she mainlines killing game media out of a desperate, suicidal desire for escape, rather than the boredom of a peaceful world... but it's still very much the same view of the appeal as "gory spectacle and sensationalism". Which is interesting, because Kodaka's always aimed for more than that — all three Danganronpa games have narrative arcs of people pushed to the breaking point, but managing to forge bonds and triumph nonetheless. It's important to him that the player GRIEVES when people die. And Junko and Tsumugi are both ultimately proven wrong in the points they try to make. And as for Uchikoshi? I’ve never played Infinity or…Day 75: …Oh. The first sponsor did say there were hidden rules. Silly me, saying there was no incentive for PKing.

Huh, Darumi DOES get how killing game media works! That is, she gets the appeal of the Sakura Ogamis, the Chiaki Nanamis, the Peko Pekoyamas, the Kaede Akamatsus. The Rues, the Kaiji Itos, the Lunas — even the Shouma Ginzakis. It’s boring if it’s just “lol turns out people suck” like the student council massacre in DR3. The story REALLY gets compelling when the pressure brings out extraordinary qualities of nobility in people, despite everything. That’s why neither boat blows up the other in The Dark Knight.

Ch13_A_aa4b-083: Dead for several years? Huh. Maybe Hiruko was wrong about the transporter, or maybe they’re…

K.A. Applegate, to her legions of middle-grade readers, in literally June of 2001:
Quote from “K.A. APPLEGATE'S RESPONSE TO CRITICISM OF FINAL ANIMORPHS BOOK”, via hiracdelest.com.

“… Jake guilt-ridden? You don't like that one war simply led to another? Fine. Pretty soon you'll all be of voting age, and of draft age. So when someone proposes a war, remember that even the most necessary wars, even the rare wars where the lines of good and evil are clear and clean, end with a lot of people dead, a lot of people crippled, and a lot of orphans, widows and grieving parents.”

Passage from The Last Unicorn by Peter Beagle:

"And we don't steal from the rich and give to the poor," Dick Fancy hurried on. "We steal from the poor because they can't fight back—most of them—and the rich take from us because they could wipe us out in a day. We don't rob the fat, greedy Mayor on the highway; we pay him tribute every month to leave us alone.
