HA! I’m learning Italian with #Duolingo and tonight I couldn’t remember the word for ‘to check’ (controllare), so I tried to “Italianize” the word ‘verify’ instead. I guessed right! ‘Verificare’ = ‘to verify’, which Duolingo accepted for the missing word. Total shot in the dark! 🇮🇹

The English clue was “How do you think you will check?” The answer started with “Come pensi di ________?” I could not remember the Italian word for “to check” (controllare), so I tried an Italian-style spelling of the word “verify” instead, a blind guess at an alternate answer. To my surprise, Duolingo marked it as correct! Apparently I guessed correctly: “verificare” means “to verify”, which Duolingo judged as an acceptable substitute for the missing word in the translation.
