I have an article published in LJMUs ASPIRE Journal! The article, based on my Undergraduate research, investigates the fluidity of Anglo-Asante interests around the ‘Ashanti Expeditions’. The article is open access and available here: openjournals.ljmu.ac.uk/LJMU-ASPIRE/... #history #skystorians

I wonder if I could enlist the help of any naval historians. I’m trying to transcribe the casualty list (last 3 lines) but I am stuck on what I assume are the rates. I have: Richard Bowden, Stoker, killer. Mr. Donnison ??? ??? & Alfred Ward, ??? Steward slightly wounded. #navalhistory #skystorians

I think one of the best things to come across when looking in archives are things that really humanise the past. Such as Commander William Charles Chamberlain writing the ships name in bubble writing! #history #royalnavy #navalhistory

I completed my first trip to The National Archives in Kew last week, it was such a great experience. Still in awe at the accessibility of such a vast collection of materials. #history #skystorians #navalhistory

I recently read an article by Emily Robinson (2010) on the empirical experience of archival research and touching the past. But looking at these ship’s logs at the National Archives, all I can think of is the amount of squished bugs between the pages! #history

I recently presented my first academic paper! Speaking at the Northwest Network for Imperial and Colonial studies my paper looked at the intersection of gunboat diplomacy and anti-slavery against Brazil in the 19th Century. 🗃️ #history #skystorians

It is such a privilege and blessing to have access to digitised sources. A quick search and you’re immersed in 19th Century treaties and statutes. 🗃️ #history This afternoon’s reading:

Managed to pick up some historical literature all for less than £10! Particularly looking forward to reading Stowe while researching Victorian anti-slavery.

Hey a thing I really don’t want to get lost here is that while Tylenol doesn’t cause autism, IT’S FINE TO BE AUTISTIC. Let’s not grant them the premise that autism should be eradicated in our way to correct the science, okay? Okay.

Using the summer break to catch up on some reading. Extending my reading into some long eighteenth century stuff. Both interesting reads, but I think I’m still in the long nineteenth century camp. #history #historybooks

Quite concerning that Waterstones now has an “alternative history” section, with books on 9/11 conspiracies and ancient aliens. Pseudoscience/history can be dangerous and should not be promoted nor legitimised.

Map dated 1858 showing the extent of the Asante Empire and British possessions in West Africa. Interestingly many British forts are simply underlined red, showing the lack of British influence and jurisdiction outside of its 'Bridgeheads' (John Darwin, 2013, p.8-9). #History

Following the Battle of Waterloo, towards the end of June, Captain Jonathan Leach of the 1st Battalion 95th Rifles, while stationed at St. Denis noted in his journal a ‘curious dialogue’ between soldiers of his division. It provides an interesting window into the variety of Wellingtons force.

That petition for a new general election is absurd. The same democratic mandate which led to Brexit must now be observed by those throwing their toys out the pram at a Labour Government
