We remain constructive on the long-term opportunity in Latin American equities. The region is structurally under-represented in global equity benchmarks: Latin America and the Caribbean account for around 7% of global gross domestic product (GDP), yet the MSCI EM Latin America Index represents considerably less than 1% of the MSCI ACWI’s Index. In our view, this disconnect leaves meaningful scope for a re-rating as global investors seek broader diversification and return to less crowded markets.

And there it is. Blackrock is like: these right wing extremists taking over Latin America is good for business.
Another constructive development during the period was the broader rightward shift across parts of Latin America. Chile’s new administration took office in March with an agenda centred on fiscal restraint and growth. Colombia elected right-wing candidate Abelardo de la Espriella in June, and in the same month Keiko Fujimori of Fuerza Popular narrowly won Peru’s runoff against leftist Roberto Sánchez. Although not every country moved in the same direction, the overall tone was encouraging for investors, with fiscal discipline and private-sector investment looking set to play a bigger role in shaping regional policy.

Alright let's look at BlackRock's Latin America investment report for the first half of 2026.
Over the six months ended 30 June 2026, Latin American equities produced a return of 10.5% ahead of Developed Markets of 9.7% but lagged the broader Emerging Markets which produced a return of 23.8%. That gap is almost entirely a story of sector composition. Emerging Market returns were dominated by Asia, where the Asia ex-Japan index returned 26.2%, driven by a concentrated group of large technology companies benefiting from global artificial intelligence (AI) spending. Technology accounts for close to half of that index by weight and is effectively absent from the Latin American index, which is led instead by financials, materials, energy and consumer businesses. Latin America therefore had little direct participation in the period's dominant return driver..

That same composition is what makes the region valuable in a global portfolio. While AI-related names drove headline returns, the period was a volatile one beneath the surface, with the escalation of the US–Iran conflict pushing energy prices sharply higher before conditions eased as a ceasefire came into prospect and the Strait of Hormuz reopened. Latin America proved relatively resilient, supported by its limited direct exposure to the conflict and its position as a major exporter of energy, metals and agricultural commodities. Brazil and Mexico, which together represented approximately 85% of the benchmark at 30 June 2026, both delivered positive returns of +9.3% and +10.9% respectively..

All performance figures are calculated in US Dollar terms with dividends re-invested.Latin America offers a differentiated response to a more fragmented economic and geopolitical environment. The region has limited direct exposure to many of the world’s major conflict zones and is a leading producer of the commodities required for AI infrastructure, electrification, energy and food security, including copper, lithium, iron ore, oil and agricultural products. Over time, demand for these products will grow both globally and domestically, giving the region a real growth dynamic. Locally listed businesses should benefit from this growth.

Investing in Latin America remains a volatile business but the companies based in the region have more experience with these conditions than companies in more economically mature regions. Their stock markets offer excellent diversification from the current, heavily tech-driven US stock markets, as well as interesting valuations.

Your Board believes that in key markets for the Company such as Brazil and Mexico, equities remain attractive for international investors as they offer a discounted investment opportunity compared to other emerging markets. We have a well-diversified portfolio and an experienced portfolio management team and your Board believes they can take advantage of the opportunities described above.

This is so completely disturbing. I think its important that no one loses sight of anti-blackness as a foundation of tech fascism. "Go back to Africa" is crazy while VC plots on Black people in Africa and brings in colonies, new mines and weapons companies. www.theguardian.com/technology/2...
Dozens of Black employees at Tesla’s flagship plant in California said they were subject to racist slurs, unequal pay and promotions, and bullying by supervisors on a daily basis, a situation management did little to nothing to fix.

Their complaints form the basis of a lawsuit brought against the Elon Musk-owned electric car company by the state of California, which began trial with opening statements on Monday.

Brett Watson, a lawyer for the California Civil Rights Department, started by showing the court a series of photographs taken throughout Tesla’s Fremont factory. There was the N-word scratched on to a grey-blue metal surface and written in black marker on a wall. “KKK”, swastikas, the Confederate flag, a white supremacist logo and “go back to Africa” had also been found scrawled in bathrooms, lockers, workplace benches and lunch tables, according to court documents.

Itana, the Network State site in Nigeria, was quiet for awhile, but has been building all the while, and now expanding with the backing of the Nigerian government Itana is funded by Andreessen and Thiel through Pronomos Capital punchng.com/tinubu-moves...
President Bola Tinubu has moved Nigeria’s Digital Free Zones initiative to its implementation phase, targeting increased global investment, job creation and the retention of Nigerian technology companies and intellectual property in the country.

The President also directed the Minister of Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole, to work with the Itana Innovation project and the Presidential Steering Committee on Digital Free Zones to develop a roadmap for the full launch of the initiative within 180 days.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the initiative is aimed at making it easier for Nigerian technology and service companies to raise global capital, employ Nigerians and build for international markets without relocating their businesses and intellectual property abroad.

Tinubu said the initiative would also create opportunities for young Nigerians to work for global companies from within the country while expanding the domestic ecosystem of engineers, developers, designers, lawyers, accountants and other professionals supporting digital businesses.

I've been watching The Dropout re Elizabeth Holmes and it made me think about how the attack on medical regulations by venture capitalists, could ultimately manifest in another inversion of the Hippocratic Oath, as previously seen in Nazi doctors and scientists.
The Nazi policy of applied biology was built upon the worldwide eugenics movement that was popular for more than 30 years before Hitler became the German chancellor in 1933. Eugenics—rassenhygiene, or race hygiene, in Germany—is the science that aims to improve a race by controlling reproduction.

Nearly 3,000 physicians joined the National Socialist Physician’s League before Hitler became chancellor. By the end of World War II, 38,000 physicians, slightly less than half of Germany’s doctors, had joined the Nazi party, and 7 percent of physicians were SS members, compared with less than 0.5 percent of the general population.

Nazi physicians claimed the moral high ground by transforming the Hippocratic Oath from a doctor-patient relationship to a state-Völkskorper—or nation’s body—relationship. They justified the sterilization or elimination of “lives not worth living” as a merciful preventive measure, simultaneously ending the suffering of the genetically inferior and preventing transmission of their presumably hereditary harmful traits.

In addition to the euthanasia program, German physicians ran medical experiments—with decompression chambers, iatrogenic wounds and infections to test antibiotics, hypothermia, seawater infusions, and starvation—that were cruel and often fatal.

During the Doctors’ Trial, 16 defendants were found guilty, and seven were executed. In addition, the court developed 10 basic principles of human subjects research that were subsequently labeled the Nuremberg Code. The trial, however, focused primarily on the medical experiments rather than the egregious violations of medical ethics in clinical medicine and health care policy.

The Nuremberg Code was ignored for almost two decades until 1966, when Henry K. Beecher, MD, published an article in the New England Journal of Medicine detailing multiple unethical medical experiments. And in 1972, whistleblower Peter Buxton leaked the story of the Tuskegee experiments...The Hippocratic Oath has been eclipsed as a document of professional ethics by more extensive works. The first example in modern times was by Thomas Percival at Manchester Royal Infirmary, who published a code of 'medical ethics' in 1803.[20] It was then adapted by other medical associations, such as the American Medical Association's Code of Medical Ethics (first adopted in 1847) and the British General Medical Council's Good Medical Practice. These documents provide a comprehensive overview of the obligations and professional behaviour of a doctor to their patients and wider society. Doctors who violate these codes may be subjected to disciplinary proceedings, including the loss of their license to practice medicine. The lengthiness of these documents has made their distillations into shorter oaths an attractive proposition. In light of this fact, several updates to the oath have been offered in modern times,[21][22] some facetious.[23]

In 1948, the World Medical Association (WMA) drafted a medical oath, called the Declaration of Geneva. "During the post World War II and immediately after its foundation, the WMA showed concern over the state of medical ethics in general and over the world. The WMA took up the responsibility for setting ethical guidelines for the world's physicians. It noted that in those years the custom of medical schools to administer an oath to its doctors upon graduation or receiving a license to practice medicine had fallen into disuse or become a mere formality".[24] In Nazi Germany, medical students did not take the Hippocratic Oath, although they knew the ethic of "nil nocere"—do no harm.[25]

This journalist does an amazing job of reporting on Honduras, Prospera, and political corruption, new article on Juan Orlando Hernandez, Prospera, and Thiel/Andreessen criterio.hn/prospera-ser...
Democrats say the exchange for a pardon for Juan Orlando Hernández would be successful

A Democratic House report links efforts by Trump allies to pardon Juan Orlando Hernández to the interests of investors in Próspera, the ZEDE that the former president made possible in Honduras. Hernández was extradited to the United States in April 2022 and sentenced in March 2024 to 45 years in prison and five years of supervised release for three drug trafficking-related offenses, including cocaine importation and weapons-related crimes. On December 1, 2025, he was pardoned by President Donald Trump .

The report by the Democratic staff of the House Judiciary Committee states that Hernandez used his office to corruptly collaborate with and protect the Sinaloa Cartel, helping them smuggle hundreds of tons of drugs into the United States. It states that federal prosecutors spent more than 15 years building the case against Hernandez.

Furthermore, they point out that Hernández also spent years cultivating friendships within President Trump's orbit, including pipeline billionaire Kelcy Warren and technology investors Peter Thiel and Marc Andreessen, friendships with significant investments in the Prospera ZEDE, who "would benefit from his return to Honduran politics."

They add that Roger Stone himself, when he took charge of the case of the convicted international drug trafficker, revealed his intentions: pardoning Mr. Hernandez, he said, would save 'the Prospera experiment'.

In the first eight months of Asfura's government, the company promoting the ZEDE in Roatán, Honduras Próspera Inc., organized forums supported by public and private institutions, despite the declaration of unconstitutionality.

The Honduran Council of Private Enterprise (Cohep), which in 2021 concluded that the ZEDEs “are an imposition of a new State within the State of Honduras”, went on in 2026 to participate in forums with investors from Honduras Próspera Inc., promoter of the ZEDE in Roatán and La Ceiba.

Asfura, for his part, participated in the Ibero-American Tourism Forum, where he posed in front of the Prospera stand, and met with Israeli Rami Arad, CEO of MAG Technologies Group, an investor in the Satuyé Technology & Data Center that plans to be installed in the Port of Satuyé, incorporated into the Prospera ZEDE regime.

Speaking of Oracle, last year General Catalyst, one of the absolutely more disgusting and dangerous VC firms, purchased for itself.... a hospital in Ohio.
Today, we are one step closer to realizing that last part of our vision. We are delighted to announce that HATCo has signed a letter of intent to acquire Summa Health, in what we hope is only the beginning of HATCo and Summa Health’s long-term journey together to reshape and improve the future of healthcare delivery.

Summa Health is one of the largest integrated delivery systems in Ohio. For over 130 years, Summa Health has served a diverse and changing community that is representative of the broader healthcare population. Under the leadership of CEO Dr. Cliff Deveny, Summa Health has navigated several seismic industry shifts (both pre- and post-Covid) and the business is on an impressive upward trajectory – resulting in both sound financial performance AND enhanced access to quality care for their communities. Amidst an ever evolving and challenging healthcare landscape (where ongoing changes in reimbursement, pay structure, and payer mix, as well as rising supply and operational costs will continue to affect the bottom line of all systems), HATCo and Summa Health leadership have a clear understanding of Summa Health’s future path to growth, vitality, service, and continued success. We believe HATCo’s investment into Summa Health will drive not only near-term benefit to the organization and the patients it serves but also sustainable, long-term transformation through a true shift to value-based care and access to new revenue streams, resources, innovations, and technologies.
