iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

It would also seem (correct me if I’m wrong) that Barry has no interest in having archival releases come out. We get 3 CDs worth of Beach Boys Love You and zero CDs of Cucumber Castle through Mr. Natural from The Bee Gees. They might become cool yet though: my daughter LOVES Robin’s solo stuff.

I remember getting lost in Newark, NJ. I just made wider and wider circles until I saw a sign for a highway I knew. I still rarely use navigation from my phone but I do print out directions before leaving the house.

The first song The Cheepskates recorded straight to digital in 1990. Kinda dystopian… I was in a bad mood I guess. #HomeMadeMusic music.youtube.com/watch?v=-g6B...

There are three (four?) Elvis records approaching the 50 year mark. They might just be releasing the first one a bit early so that they can space them out a bit more.

Shane Faubert @shanefaubert.bsky.social · 01/10/2026

I never go back to this one. Everyone has to start somewhere and two great self-penned songs on an album in 1962 was more than enough to distract them from school.

My dad was a dj at a radio station and brought home duplicate 45s the station received from their multiple subscription services. I woke up one morning and included in the stack of singles on my blue record player was “Fun Fun Fun” by The Beach Boys. Yes, hooked… Forever.

I first heard this as premiered on a Montreal FM station the day it came out. Immediately after the broadcast I became violently ill. To this day I love the album but get a queasy feeling in my stomach whenever I listen to it, especially “Oh Darling” (although there might be other reasons for that).

I’m going to give James Burton a little love.

Bee Gees Odessa (not digitally reproducible) Maybe John & Yoko’s Two Virgins, which is still pretty shocking at full size, not so much as a thumbnail. Yup, still have them both on vinyl!

I think he’s a good guy and a good songwriter. I’ve never been a fan of vests or visible nether-region sweat and that keeps him out of the pantheon for me. I do wish him the best and a very happy birthday though!

Shane Faubert @shanefaubert.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

Ball of Confusion does it for me too. Other than that Baby Love floors me every time but there are literally dozens of Motown songs that I could mention here that could qualify. If I could only have one box set the Motown Singles box(es) would keep me endlessly satisfied.

Bob Dylan said in an interview that the guy that wrote Highway 61 was gone. The guys that wrote Cortez the Killer and Blank Frank are too. My wish for them and artists like them is to be allowed to finish their sentences and be appreciated. There are rewards for joining them where they are.

Shane Faubert @shanefaubert.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

It wound up being a very special experience. I feel this is the way we need to deal with our heroes who continue to create: we have to find a way to get on their wavelength and appreciate that their message and sense of time and what they consider important needs to be embraced.

“Baby’s On Fire” has given way to “I go to the river and think about Bobby Vee”. I had a job once where I had to service salesmen (no, stop it) and I was assigned one who was in his 80s mostly because I was the only one who let him finish a sentence at his pace.

Neil Young comes to mind - for years now he’s been more or less journaling to music… “I went driving on a dirt road and it was dusty and bumpy, dusty and bumpy”. I’m not criticizing in any way, just saying that the wavelength he’s on is really hard to get in sync with. Same with Eno.

I watched the September version of the Eno movie on Criterion tonight. One thing that surprises me more than anything is how happy he seems to be. It did get me to thinking about something else though: when certain artists get old they go somewhere that is slower and more literal.

I think it would be Brach Boys’ Sunflower. Not because it’s my favorite album, more because I think it still has a lot of music in it I haven’t heard deeply enough yet… if that makes sense.
