Ugh, I KNOW. The folks behind "The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin" seemed to have a similar attitude (although I realize that was Apple TV, not HBO). "Hey, we know that your beloved queer show was cancelled, but you can watch this one instead! They're interchangeable, right?".

Out for a walk yesterday, thinking about my fic, recorded a voice memo on my phone: “Ned Low had always been handsome in a slick, huckster-like way, but now he resembled nothing more than a cornered rat.” Looked up and saw my neighbour staring at me. My reputation as the local weirdo lives on!

I feel dumb, because I hadn't realized that AI was being used to "write" fanfic as early as April 2024 (when the fic was posted). All I knew was that it was dry and soulless ("like biting into a cake from a bakery display, only to discover that it's frosted styrofoam", as that one commenter put it).

I finally got around to reading an #OFMD fic I'd bookmarked in 2024. "Hmm, the author orphaned their account. Hmm, is it just me, or is this fic really terrible?". Then I checked the comments, and they all said "Get this AI slop out of here." Guess that explains the orphaning and the terribleness.

The worst it got was Booth referring to the victim as "not a real woman", but after he was angrily shouted down by his colleagues, he sheepishly apologized and didn't do it again.
