It's really hard to find coverage of what's happening in Sudan outside of internationally-focused publications like Equator. This is a fantastic, incredibly detailed, two-part piece.

During the Cockroach protests, something shifted: for a moment, thousands of Indians spoke freely about the Modi government in a way that hadn't felt possible for years. Rahul Bhatia was there. In a new piece for Equator, he asks what happens next: www.equator.org/articles/run...
The protest at Jantar Mantar was marked by the desire for something new. The fear of consequences and authority was supplanted by the drive to speak openly. It was as if the place had become a special intellectual zone, like the Special Economic Zones the government carves out with their own rules and tax systems for the enrichment of well-connected industrialists and their favoured conglomerates. Here, in this intellectual zone, it was possible to finally speak freely again.

“As we look upon burned flesh in Gaza, we are also seeing the rubble of this older version of Western empire. How best to splice the frame, to keep them both in mind, to keep looking?”
Every day for two years, we have seen the material ruins of Gaza: apartment buildings, houses, schools, hospitals, water lines, gardens. Aerial photographs show destruction so total it resembles ash, like the leavings of a fire, which, if you touched them with a finger, might crumble softly. The majority of housing is damaged or uninhabitable, and most people are living in tents, vulnerable not only to Israeli firepower but to the elements, storms, the freezing cold, poor sanitation.

I personally would prefer it if Burnham could be swapped in quickly and easily, and it’d probably be better for the nation. But I see no reason why the Greens should now help people who just spent two weeks calling them hateful racist cranks trying to give heroin to children.

I hope this isn't true. There are times when it's more important to put country before party. This is one of them. Burnham's longstanding commitment to a fairer voting system could transform our democracy & counter the dire threat of a Reform UK government elected on a minority of the vote

This is a nice sentiment but there is no such thing as "country before party": how are we all meant to agree on what's good for the country if not through political contests?

Eva Menasse Bad memories Nothing can stop Germany’s moral panic over antisemitism
Given Germany's history, there is a bitter irony in the increasingly aggressive attacks by non-Jewish politicians and journalists on Jews who refuse to be
'protected' by Staatsräson. At the same time, these noisy debates divert attention away from the everyday racism directed against German Muslims, who are in turn suspected of antisemitism. I ask myself whether, in a different country, a minister of culture could use a racist phrase like "Pali activists" without sanction, the way Wolfram Weimer did.
As elsewhere, all of this is playing into the hands of repressive, right-wing, anti-immigrant political forces while obscuring the economic interests that lie behind them. After all, Germany is still delivering weapons to Israel - without any meaningful protests or public debate.

"critics of Germany's repressive reading of memory culture are treated as antisemitic – suggesting that the real Staatsräson is not just the protection of Israel, but of German moral purity." Menasse has written a superb analysis of Germany's frightening memory culture malaise.
