very close second, amongst many near-peers especially impressive given that vocalist Chris Harms doesn't speak Finnish 😅

one last post about QC: it's hard to overstate just how bad the CAQ lost aiui the only places they were even close were • Trois-Rivières, where Christine Fréchette lost by 500 • Jonquière, where they lost by 900 and everything else was either 3rd place or a multi-thousand vote blowout

yeah, PSPP sounds like the kind of guy who'll turn out to be good at complaining and bad at governing. Carney's best move might just be to press ahead and let Quebec's opposition parties get their hits in on the PQ instead

made a bit simpler by the fact that the CAQ won't be teaming up with anyone. they were completely wiped off the map 😅

it will be interesting to see how the PQ chooses to govern. in his victory speech, their leader struck a more conciliatory/pragmatic tone than he's known for, lol I'm no expert, but I think working with the other parties on an issue-by-issue basis is much more likely than a formal coalition

on peut dire que les Québécois/es ont « CAQuer la porte » sur la CAQ, lol
011
Not That Rick Scott 🇨🇦 @shadowspar.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
absolutely this. there is a big difference between voting for the PQ and voting "Oui" in a referendum. les Québécois/es understand that very well; others, often not so much.

PSPP giving a victory speech that's very conciliatory so far, pledging to work with the other parties, adopt ideas from all of them. not sure exactly how that squares with some of the things he's put forward in the past, lol

like I don't have the time of day for Duhaime or the PCQ, but I would like to hear what his argument to the anglos is! he's trying to peel them away from the PLQ

the 2 closest ridings in the province are PLQ/QS battles so like. not really awful either way for those
Screenshot from Radio-Canada results map (in French). Two closest ridings: Maurice-Richard and Saint-Henry-Sainte-Anne, with the Quebec Liberal Party in the lead by 109 and 182 votes respectively.

that said...a lot of tight riding-by-riding battles that the other parties need to win for this to happen and the CAQ seems cooked, I don't think they are projected higher than 3rd place in any riding

"it will suck" is cheating but is the most accurate and most likely way to describe the result, lol in all seriousness, I'm thinking the PQ ends up just barely in minority territory. they tend to underperform their polling and I feel like they're coming into voting day trending down

for my part, I'll say that I found Cologne _incredibly_ disorienting at first, even with maps. not having anything at right angles messed with my brain more than I expected. "turn left"? which left, there are three of them! 😅

having access to a map (either paper or digital) and knowing how to use it is still a boss move. it lets you pick a different route for any number of reasons: • there's a crash and the road is closed • this construction zone is awful • I want to stay off the Interstates on my motorcycle • etc.

paper maps, written directions, driving with someone who's been there before. sometimes "call me when you get to town and I'll come get you". also general knowledge + "follow the signs" is heavily underrated. I could drive to Edmonton by heading west and watching for signs that say "EDMONTON ↗️".

we don't smoke inside any more; we don't put leaded gas in our cars any more; we don't use ozone-depleting chemicals any more. the bad things don't last forever. we've ended them in the past, and we'll end more of them in the future.

not only can we build good things, we can end bad things. Ontario used to have five coal-fired power plants. they caused smog, illness, and hundreds of premature deaths every year. now we have zero. because we fucking ended them.

two days ago Germany was like "that's gonna be a Nein from us dawg" gotta say, don't love the idea of Europe drawing down its diesel reserves in case Putin tries some bullshit www.politico.com/news/2026/09...
A spokesperson for the German Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy said the government there would be unlikely to agree to releasing diesel from its reserves short of physical scarcity.

“We do not speculate about future events,” the spokesperson said. “What is clear is that releases will only occur in the event of potential shortages. The release ... is not intended to stabilize prices; that would lead to speculation in the market. No further releases are currently planned.”
